    Dragons eye Pearce treaty
    April 27, 2012
    Brad Walter

After missing out on Cooper Cronk, St George Illawarra officials are believed to have identified Mitchell Pearce as their next big-name halfback target. Pearce, who appears set to retain the NSW No.7 jersey for Origin I, is off contract with Sydney Roosters at the end of next season and Sin Bin has been told the Dragons are already planning to make a bid for him. That would coincide with the anticipated retirement of St George Illawarra captain Ben Hornby, who will continue to play halfback for the club next season after Cronk's recent decision to remain with Melbourne.

    You know it makes sense.

Why not, Manly were after him for years, apparently he hates Smith. He hates the Roosters so it all makes sense. Well thats what all the rumors say.

It would explain why we've bought Morts and Maloney.

I could live with that as a halves combination.

If he goes, I won't cry.

I'd probably make a bid for him too if I was the Dragons... doesn't mean much at this point though. I'd be surprised if there's not another half dozen clubs who would like to make a bid for him. Looks like a slow news day with 18months to run on his contract.

I thought the Dragons were trying to off load Soward to overseas rugby to ease salary cap pressure??

I hope Pearce stays as he is starting to really come into his own and should be even better playing along side Maloney.

The club didn't buy Mortimer to rot at Newton. He must have been bought for a reason.

Geez if I was the Soxes I'd buy Pearce to partner Coward, and offload Hornby. I still reckon that's the 1/2s pairing that would compliment each other on a week to week basis. I always wondered what they'd have been like together as our 1/2s.

Given what he and SKD said to JWH about staying and wanting to build a solid core of players, it'd be hypocritical of him to leave

having said that, i think he'll be loyal to us

Why would the Dragons want Pearce, he's crap isn't he? That's what the self appointed experts on this forum have been saying forever, Pearce is crap. So either these experts know more than the Dragons coaching and recruitment staff about identifying talent or they know sweet fark all about it? I wonder which it is...

                        Chook.

Why not? When we bought Mortimer he was rotting at Wenty and Parra was prepared to pay part of his salary to get rid of him.

Not saying he wont be a good player but he has not yet set the world and fire and I doubt he was plan A to replace the NSW Origin Halfback who we have been nurturing since he was 17.

Yep, terrible player....mini is cr ap too isn't he?

He will not be going anywhere....he's playing one out at the moment and doing a terrific job. When Maloney arrives next year, he will become twice the player again.

I've always been a Pearce supporter Chooky.

I'm just glad he's starting to pull his finger out and playing like we know he can.

                              Well, some of us.
