I think where Melbourne get away with the scrutiny of being linked to a big name player,(Tallis also loves the super league aligned clubs)is that they give away bigger talent than they buy.

I can’t remember them buying a superstar to be honest.

Maybe Coates, but they did give away the fox at the same time.

if you look at their team this week, apart from Munster, hughes, Grant, Coates and Nelson, there isn’t many big money names in there, they must regret losing Tino a few years back, but the money the coast threw at him was never gonna be matched.

Why do you think Nick & the other very rich board members don’t get their lawyers to do that?
If I was very rich & had my own lawyers & someone was saying untruths about the club that I was the boss of I would have them up for defamation.
All clubs rort/cheat the cap & all the clubs know it but none of them can do anything about it because they are all doing it.

Conversley, if I ran amedia organisation I would assign the best resources possible to uncover the Roosters alleged cap breaches!
What a story...it will be loved by every goose out there who supports another club!
              It would win Walkelys..
You will be the most loved journo in NRL fandom world!
Surely out of all the ex players, ex coaches, ex girlffriends of players etc, someone would have evidence.
Many disgruntled sacked ex employees of the club, coaches, players etc their dads...surely one of them would leak to exact their vengence on the club!
But It's the constant, I know a bloke who knows a bloke who walks his dog in a park who knows someone etc..... BUT There is nothing!
What about an anonymous tip off with evidence that you could sell to News ltd and make a small sum?? Surely somebody would do this!
              But nothing!!!

People don't realise how far $13 million can go (or lower in the past....but it is scalable..)..the teams that win the comp have a good mix of players on big coin, middle coin etc, but it's usually due to the rise of younger players on medioca or low contracts that make the difference. (people look at the roosters team of 18/19 and think Mitchell or Manu were million dollar players back then...but they were on their first contracts basically.... ) Nobody had the roosters as afvourites those years...they cmae from nowhere because of players like Latrell/Joey/Tetivano/Fergo/Matterson/NAppa.... the list goes on.

If you get your development squad right and the timing is right, you can spend 80% of your cap on a handful of players.... you also need to spend wisely on journeymen and bargain buy players... or playersoff loaded by other lubs who still pay a portion of their salary.

The roosters have done this well in the past.

Gordon is correct to a degree. The game is corrupt. But its not salary related. Its related to betting and fixed/rigged results and margins. Like most sports.

Tallis is dangerous , because he does not think before he speaks . An amateur out of his depth , lucky to be in the media , would hate to think were he would be without the media gig . Any suggestions ?

This may be the case but I think on this occasion it just comes down to the fact that Tallis hates the Roosters. He is incapable of separating his biases from his opinions. He does it with the Roosters and anything to do with QLD or QLD clubs.

I don't think any team actually cheats the cap but as previously pointed out by posters in this thread there would be a ton of legal loopholes and technicalities to exploit. Roosters and a lot of other clubs sign an ageing veteran star player for a year or two with the promise of a highly paid job afterwards, Roosters obviously offer "business networking opportunities" via Politis as well.

I think it was the Cowboys that had someone involved that was a property developer so the rumour was players would get deals on cheap real estate, there was the Bulldogs pub share rumour as well, every club is probably using the loopholes and the ones that don't are most likely being left behind.

Teams are definitely cheating the salary cap and have been caught blatantly cheating the salary cap like Melbourne carrying two sets of account books while Brisbane used to pay players through a group of businessmen that had no official dealings with the club and Canterbury paying over $1m in secret payment to players when the salary cap was only $3m. In almost all of the major salary cap scandals it’s not about signing expensive players but re-signing talent that’s already at the club.

100% he hates them, has said so on air. Says it’s because of one of his best mates who goes for us, and enjoys annoying him.

that’s why I take what he says with a grain of salt, and avoid listening to him when I can, he has no insight, and zero talent in the media world.

he is a simple minded man, so I do feel sorry for him in some way.

Yes I think someone mentioned that in here before. It may have been you but simple minded is about right. I can’t believe I’m saying this but it will be good to get Kent back!
