I really don't understand why we would want him. Surely just another stupid rumour with a player being linked to the Roosters.

Speaking of which, I remember on the Gameplan a few weeks back Steve Roach saying something like 'what is it with the Roosters wanting to buy every off-contracted player?' (after the mole segment). This really sh.. me! It's the media and player managers who link us to every off-contract (even contracted!!) players. We do not want to buy every one.

tolman is a good player and it would be hard to be disappointed with his arrival under any circumstances. Ill also add my weight to this rumour in that we have spare cap space and it is well documented that Hasler doesnt see the point in having tolman and graham both on his books particularly for the sort of money they are both on. To this end, if this does happen, I hope it is not for similar money to that that he is currently on at the dogs (rumoured to be 350k plus). he is a 250-300k player imo.

the only thing that makes me hesitant about this signing is that bosden in particular is starting to get an opportunity to show that he has the ability to play the worker role in the middle that tolman would be recruited to play. It would also put another forward on our books and with JWH, Tasi, Kennedy, Evans, Napa, Tago, Masoe and even FPN and Arona all give us pretty good depth and star quality from prop. That said, JWH and tasi could easily be moved into the backrow or even tolman could be moved to lock like myles but that would have the effect of forcing a backrower out of first grade. In summary, I will reserve judgement on whether we need Tolman for a little while longer (at least until bosden and arona in particular get an extended spell in firsts to prove their worth).

The only other potential avenue that would have me approve of his acquisition straight away would be if it were as a direct replacement for FPN (both cap space and in the squad). This too is a difficult call to make as FPN does have ability but his inconsistency is starting to get to me and from a leadership and experience perspective we would gain plenty by getting tolman.

Therefore, for the right price:
FPN out Tolman in OR bosden/arona dont live up to expectation and tolman in

Matt Balin may be available, he seems to be low on Manly's priority list. Although I haven't yet given up on Jake, we could do a lot worse than buy Balin.
