as much as you need to look after health next year will be a big year for him, if he comes back and kills it will get a 1 year extension year on year or not and be let go
$750k is a lot and with the amount of back rowers we have including sitili, butcher, butcher, radley, Whyte and Wong

wong is one to watch next year
Gus was very average last season.

Wasn't it posted that Terrell May was on the outer too and was to be released at seasons end.

Should be no duty of care involved at a professional level when you commit crimes. Free the cap space as he’s been absolute crap for several years now. There will be sympathisers that day Bipolar etc, but the mental health card always gets thrown around instead of taking responsibility these days.
Really? The mental health card? This is why some people with mental health issues feel isolated and too afraid to ask for help.

Sounds like he put in a decent performance today.

Maybe he was selected to play today to get some match fitness. I'd say he'll at least be in the 19 man squad next week. As will Whyte.

              He was better then that
he seems to start the year slow and gets into the season as it goes
the truth is in Origen as he played between 2018 to 2022 and never played a full series, either started and got dropped or didn’t make it and got on later on the series
only 27 so still time, seems to have filled out abit more and less Mobile
next year he will be on notice, and we all know how many players lift in a contract ending year to get a new one

tbh has been a little disspojntimg after the raps from south’s, has not progressed and potentially gone backwards at the chooks

Strange that Crichton played game 2 and 3 of SOO for NSW and 5 games for Australia at the Rugby League World Cup including the 1/4 final , Semi Final and Final - certainly not the form of someone having an average season in 2022 to be selected in such games based on their club form.

                  Anyway

Bingo. Dunno why people are ripping into him about having struggled with mental health challenges. We rightfully dunno what he's going through (he's under no obligation to tell us everything) but it's real and the MCL didn't help with his return.

IMO he's brave taking the time off and our club's culture has done wall to support players like him as well as guys like Billy Smith who've been injured long-term. When we look after players they always seem to come good and be loyal.

Heck I recently took 2 weeks off work related to what happened in Japan this year. I'm still gradually getting my confidence back and am feeling quite vulnerable. Life happens. TBH in life I'm often more worried about being around those who don't seek help for their challenges and take a step back when necessary. Wish more people would do it in life...

Mental health is no joke, but his form has been ordinary. I'd be drastically reducing his deal if he wanted to stay. He is a squad player at this point and we can't carry passengers in our 17.

I remember first half of the year he looked out of shape and ineffective. There were definitely questions about why he was picked for Origin.

Seemed to play himself into form and had a barnstorming run home (along with the rest of the team).

He is a quality player without doubt, but he builds himself up as the season goes. This year has been interrupted with off field issues and injury.

Would love to see how he goes next year with a full off season and plenty of game time before writing him off.

Nothing against the Butcher brothers who are giving it their best crack - Nat in particular seems to have synced up well with Keary on the left. But I can tell you, opposing teams would have a lot more concerns seeing a fully fit Gus, Sitili and Wong running attacking lines on the edges.
                        Spot on.

Just seen this based on their performances on the weekend in NSW cup:

Roosters star Angus Crichtonplayed just the first half of the Cup side’s loss to the Magpies, finishing with three runs for 22 metres and six tackles, one miss. Meanwhile Naufahu Whyte celebrated his return from a MCL injury with a try, a linebreak, four tackle busts, 156 metres and 22 tackles — one miss.

For me Whyte needs to be selected before Angus. I know Gus has the runs on the board and the experience but he is just struggling to inject himself and work rate is atrocious. Maybe he is still carrying injury? But those stats are dismal from him in a grade he should clearly dominate.

Angus on 800k is just not cutting it atm.

                            Wong has gone pass him.

I agree. I am interested to see how he goes next year with a full pre season and if he has a run of footy injury free.

Interesting stats. I'd say both will be in the extended squad with Whyte getting the nod ahead of Angus for the final 17.
