Some fantastic attacking players in that team. Fittler, Walker, Barnett, Fletch.....great team to watch.

I concur with the comment above. It was a devastating blow when Barnett got smashed. I used to love watching him.

Now tell me, do you see tries like that scored in the NRL today!?

          No chance.

The game is worse now. There is no way it is as skilful and entertaining as what I saw in that footage.

The game of rugby league lacks those sort of backline moves and crafty players.

Apart from our season in 2010 when we had that period late in the season of several wins in a row and made the grand final, I haven’t seen us score tries like that since Freddy retired in 2004.

Spot on Vasco, the game these days just doesn't compare, not even close. How sad is that.

The simple catch and pass for Sing's first try, so simple yet our current backline would be no F@#$ing chance of doing it. Reminds me of how good Freddy was and how bad Anasta is!!

I think the players are better today it's just the coaching and tactics that have come into the game that have made it boring and predictable. Look at the last 6-7 years it's the best defensive/wrestling teams that have been successful.

I've said it before we are probably one of the only teams in the comp who doesn't have the same boring predictable set plays. When our passes stick we look good when we drop the ball we look shit. It just very hard to play that style these days.

It's a shame because some of those tries were thrilling to watch like we were in 2010.

                    Yep.
                    Every player seems to:
                    have beautiful hands
                    runs straight at the line
knows how to catch and pass and draw a man
                    has pace

then Freddy x by 3....fark he was deceptively quick and had balance

Those were also the days of unlimited interchanges. I loved the Roosters teams in the mid to late nineties, they may have choked and been unlucky but they were a joy to watch and you knew we were always a chance to win/score a brilliant try. We had an electric backline. I loved hearing Rabs call, Lam, Fittler...Fittler - Sing/Barnett/Walker. Great players.

Re;The players today are are fitter and stronger so gaps are hard to come by, add that to teams today playing percentages and that has made the game monotonous with taking the five hit ups and a kick.

An example is Stephen Kearney,he wants to coach a safe boring style out of Parra but they lose, when if they had a proper crack and played instincts sometimes you can score and possible win.

90's was a great era of Rugby league for me.

                          .
Rubbish. There is not a single member of our current backline who could compete with those players.......why? basic skills......running at holes, drawing and passing, doing it at speed.
Look at some of the scorelines this year. Alot of tries are being scored and a lot of soft points conceded. Parra put on 30 points in 10 minutes by simply drawing the man and passing to someone in space. Now look at their players. That 5/8 Roberts should not be playing footy. Luke Burt, and Tonga are passed it........how are they stronger and fitter...........................sterlo has said their marquee halfback is fat

it is disgraceful fat braith is wearing Fitlers jersey

Exactly. While everyone bags Smith, he is actually the one coach who still tries to coach the old way - that is encouraging players to play what is in front of them, having fewer set plays etc. It is the boring coaches like Bellamy who have started this new trend of over-coaching players. Everything now revolves around set plays, taking the ball up methodically, completing your set and getting the kick in. This style of coaching is now the dominant form and this is why, IMHO, the game is more boring these days. I love watching the old games on Foxtel from the 90's when the players played with more skill, flair and vision. Smith is from this era and still tries to coach this way. We have a young team and so they still tend to take the wrong option more often than not and their skill levels are still developing. Once they gain more experience we will start to see improvements in our attack.

Those were the days my friend we thought they'd never end.........

Back when we had sideways movement balanced with outside backs running straight and fast,

And we had a 5/8 that would threaten to break the line,

I wish Smith would show the boys this video so maybe they'd wake up.
