I’d like to clarify that the thrust of this thread was meant to highlight Billy Smiths great performance and how that has potentially created selection headaches next season.

Means Robinson can finally justify carrying a winger on the bench.
In all seriousness though it is a small issue as it means we have an imbalanced squad with too much cap tied up in out back 5. Ideally you want your excessive talent tied up in the forward pack where there is more regular injuries, suspensions and rotation.
But it's a 12 month issue as we all know Suaalii moves on at the end of next year. If the right opportunity popped up for the club I think you could make a case for moving on Suaalii a year early but I just don't know what that case is.
Maybe an elite teenage outside back who would be happy to be a rotation player until Toops retires. Or an elite teenage prop who would be happy to be a lower grade player until JWH retires.

Young is not coming here to play ressies. I think he'll get first shot. I personally think we should get rid of JS a year early to avoid Billy Smith leaving but if that doesn't happen, I can't see us paying 700k to a 21 year old to play ressies.
The other 2 in the backline Joey M and Toops pick themselves.
We get injuries though and it will only be 1 season we have those 5 given JS is leaving so i think all 5 will play big roles next season.
If we are talking Rd1 though, assuming everyone is fit, itll be Toops, Young, Manu, JS. I specifically recall Robinson and Young saying he wanted to play centre and that being a big reason to come to Easts. Makes it even more likely that Billy misses out.
Thankfully it is others to decide.

It’s great to have depth but you haven’t thought this one through mate.
I can’t see Suaalii who’s on $750k next season playing Reggies or Manu or Dom Young who Robbo entertained at his Eastern Suburbs home and promised him an opportunity to one day play centre

I followed Ponga's progress closely when he was a junior and he's now once again leaving defenders for dead just like his did back in the juniors.

So glad he has managed to spend some time on field, He reminds me of a young Ryan Cross.
