  • 5 into 4 doesn't work.

With Billy Smith now taking ownership of the left centre position and Dom Young arriving next season we now have 5 quality outside backs vying for 4 positions.

Tupou, Billy Smith, Manu, Young, Suaalii

Is it a good headache or have we potentially overspent and are wasting cap space?

Will Suaalii move across to RU earlier than planned? Who do you think will miss out if he stays?

Billy owns left centre and will improve the Combo with Toops.

At any given point any of them could do a knee or Hammy so great cover to have.

Agree on the left side but then you have 3 quality players that take up around $2 million of the cap vying for 2 positions. Who plays Reggies?

Given the way our players fall like flies, we are probably SHORT two backs mun.

I have watched Young closely since we have signed him. In my opinion he’s been underwhelming. I’m happy he’s coming cause he’s a genuine speedster and we are missing that but I think he will need to prove himself at our club. Can see the potential.

I’m sure I’ll get shut down as he’s a leading try scoring but I think he could be a lot better and has a much higher ceiling than what we have seen. Toops can teach him a lot.

You have a squad of up to 30 players for a reason to cover for injuries and form.

In a perfect world you would have the following - but impossible under the cap - so you have players in your squad who can play multiple positions
                • FB -2
                • WG - 4
                • CNT-4
                • 5/8 - 2
                • HB-2
                • FR-4
                • DH-2
                • SR-4
                • LK-2
                • 4 Utilities - 2 backs and 2 forwards

Roosters Squad so far for 2024 - 26 Signed - so 4 spots to be filled - Noting that the Roosters sign 28 at the most in any given season

Pauga looks like he has a bit of toe, hopefully he re-signs as he is the perfect backup

Totally agree mate. He is a good player. Very raw and speed to burn. Needs to work on the defensive side of things and at times he is guilty of falling out of a game when he doesn't have the ball. Drifts in and out.

But what you said is right, he has such a high ceiling and so much speed. He is unplayable at times.

I don't think he is coming here to play ressies though.

I think it'll be Billy Smith that misses out.

Young is not coming here to play ressies. I think he'll get first shot. I personally think we should get rid of JS a year early to avoid Billy Smith leaving but if that doesn't happen, I can't see us paying 700k to a 21 year old to play ressies.

The other 2 in the backline Joey M and Toops pick themselves.

We get injuries though and it will only be 1 season we have those 5 given JS is leaving so i think all 5 will play big roles next season.

If we are talking Rd1 though, assuming everyone is fit, itll be Toops, Young, Manu, JS. I specifically recall Robinson and Young saying he wanted to play centre and that being a big reason to come to Easts. Makes it even more likely that Billy misses out.

Knights do favour their left side in attack but Young on the right side is doing just fine - 39 tries in 48 games - 2023 - 22 games - 21 tries / Averages 147 running metres / 29 line breaks / 97 tackle breaks / 4 ty assists
