Think they deserve some credit for the turnaround in form this season, I know they've both been working more so with the middles but there's been a noticeable difference in our resilience in defence since they jumped on board, especially in the meddle and in yardage defence. I pulled some stats around Points conceded, Run metres conceded, and line breaks conceded and there's a clear correlation between the time they joined the coaching staff full time and our improvement in these areas.

The turnaround has been nothing short of exceptional.

The thing that fascinates me is our late charge into the finals both this and last season.

Why are we playing so poorly at the start of the season?

Joined approx 5 rounds before our 5 game streak starts where the numbers really traject downwards. Although the line breaks were stopped up pretty quickly.

Interesting to see how we go in the next 5 game block so to speak which is literally finals.

Amazing stats . If it continues downward at that rate we win this thing

In hindsight we should have got rid of Ryles much earlier.

Interesting listening to Keary a couple weeks back talk about Cords and Friendy on Roosters Radio.

This highlights why we have hit winning form. King Salvo would be proud of that analysis.

                Very interesting stats, Rooster 6.

I just did a quick comparison of points conceded against the Riff in the last 5 rounds:

                Penrith - 6 Storm,12 Manly, 14 Gold Coast, 32 Parra, 12 Nth Qld. Average points conceded 15.

                Easts - 16 Manly, 14 Redcliffe, 12 Parra, 8 Balmain, 12 Souffs. Average points conceded 12.

For Penrith, the 6 conceded to Melbourne was phenomenal. A real outlier.

But against common teams we played, Parra and Manly, it's pretty even. In fact we did much better v Parra.

Aso, Penrith always get their share of 6A. We get virtually nil.

We also always lose the penalty count. Penrith win more than their share of the penalties.

Conclusion? If the refs are fair dinkum and give us a fair go, and everyone in our team plays to the best of their ability, we have a very good shot against Penrith.

There, I've changed my mind about Penrith being invincible!

Our D has improved immensely and we have momentum.

                Go Easts.

On the Other Hand one may conclude that Penrith don't need to score a lot of points to win their matches in only averaging 13 points conceded per game. - Averaged 26.87 points scored per game.

The Roosters need to score 21 or more points to win a game if they concede their average of 20 points per game.

The below may not always be reliable when it comes to one-off finals matches where anything can happen, as it is often said that finals are a new or different competition.

The best defensive sides often win competitions, though, so how a team defends during a season can count in finals matches.

                  Average Points Conceded Per Game

Interesting stats, but unless I'm reading the 'points conceded' graph incorrectly, they've improved by about 2 points per game...ie: a penalty goal.
1985: 1 try vs Parramatta, 1 try vs Manly, 1 try vs Wests, 2 tries vs Souffs
1986: 2 tries vs Illawarra, 1 try vs Balmain, 2 tries vs Norths.

No its accumulated average, not average. So in other words, the last 5 rounds have seen our points conceded drop massively.

So that means if we just take our last 5 games, our average points scored and conceded is slightly better than Penrith's over the season.

                          Interesting...

Makes me wonder if this late charge can be attributed more towards Jason Ryles leaving than anything else?
