Having a fine system of lousy $2500 for the player who, on a rough average earns $300k to $400k minimum, is no deterrent. For all 3 players it was their second similar offence within the last 12 months. ie high dangerous and injury causing contact. Are they joking the NRL? The only deterrent is missing games. I think the NRL has such a non effective system on purpose, just for the revenue.

I love this club but at times the front office disappoint me with no public comment on foul play inflicted on our players whilst the offender is let off lightly with a sin bin or paltry fine.
As for Fitzy he can go and get faaarked.

I have no issue with the fines, we have had the benefit of this system all year. What I am disappointed in is that between the wanker Sutton and his pin head mate in the bunker we didn’t get a penalty for any of these incidents. The head slam should that caused concussion should have been in the bin. If that happened it would be a 2 and then possibly a suspension.

Question: What other teams players are either unavailable or out for the season as a result of foul play from last weekends games.

I have no problem with a fine but it should be a percentage of salary.
A $1500 fine to a player on a near minimum contract is bigger deal compared to a player on a million a year.
Love to know how much JWH has donated to the NRL with his record.

With Wade Graham, what happens if he pleads guilty but doesn't pay, isn't he retiring so a suspension means nothing if they ban him from playing if he doesn't pay.

                Wow.

Even with priors, how can one careless head high tackle cost $1800 and no suspension, and another careless head high tackle be $3000 and 7 weeks suspension?

                Deeply flawed system.

I agree there is a difference, but, THAT much difference? No way.

So of those offenders on the long list I doubt any have caused season ending injury or near fatal injury like what Hutch experienced seasons ago.

fair point re wade graham, and any retiring player I guess. Always had a bit of a soft spot for him, years ago in an interview they asked him if you had to play for any other club apart from the sharks who would you choose, he said the roosters, was a roosters fan as a kid. Was a very good player seems like a long time ago now, had all those head knocks the last few seasons when he's been nowhere near as good, and still kept going. If we were Sharks supporters we'd have nothing but respect for him.

Most people on this website were happy to see Drew Hutchison injured in hospital

Fines get deducted from the clubs monthly grant, the club then takes it from the players monthly contract payment....should they choose to do so of course.

What's the problem? JWH and Victor Radley racked up many fines last year when they deserved a suspension, it's the system that's been in place for a while now because people complained about the regularly 1 week suspensions and now it has gone the other way. The big guy from Melbourne got a fine for breaking the jaw of a Warriors player last year and people said hitting players with fines would stop them from foul play but it hasn't.

So no Billy Smith for our biggest game of the season. Jaw surgery, surgeons fee of approximately $30k. Then an uncomfortable and compromising recovery period and the Sharks player that broke his jaw is fined $1800 and can play round 1 next season. Seems fair. FMD the system is flawed!

This is a way better system than the previous system where loadings and carry over points were applied

It depends on the grade and previous offences in the category the player is charged plus player records are reset on a rolling 12-month period since their last offence.
                              • Wade Graham (Finals Week 1, $1800 fine – Careless High Tackle)
                              • Briton Nikora (Finals Week 1, $1800 fine – Dangerous Contact)
                              Previous offences
                              • Wade Graham was charged and suspended for 4 matches (rounds 2 to 5) for a wreckless high tackle
                              • Briton Nikora was charged and fined for a grade 1 shoulder charge in round 1

                              https://www.nrl.com/operations/the-game/judiciary-code/

I notice that Jack Wighton is re-considering his representative retirement, which is iffy since he has been referred directly to the judiciary for the biting allegation.

The Broncos NRLW player was sent off and suspended for 2 weeks for biting Roosters player Jayme Fressard, so going by that, Wighton, if found guilty, would be looking at 5 to 6 weeks.
