    Come off it man.
Where did you get that figure from?

I think he's done enough for NZ Rugby League for them to have selected him, it would cost them nothing.
Maguire has always come across to me as a cnut.
He coached Souths and he is Sticky’s right hand man atm so it’s no suprise really. There are conflicting reports though, someone mentioned Madge said the opposite on radio. Time will tell I spose.

Are you sure? This is Mal you’re talking about with a beloved Raider. Soon to be ex but he would still do him a solid.

Yes, the system is indeed a joke. Wade Graham is retiring but his shot was cheap and intentional against a defenseless, grounded player and has likely ended Big Joe's season - one hand on Joe would have been enough for held to be called, instead he dived with a swinging arm and clocked him in the side of the head, shameful. It's very easy to fix too, if a player cannot continue after being a victim to foul play the guilty player should have to be forcibly replaced and unable to take part in the rest of the match. Not a traditional sin bin as it will still be 13 on 13, but now both teams lose a player and the guilty also lose one of their interchanges and men on the bench.

JWH would automatically be picked in the side but I’m sure I read somewhere towards the end of the season before he got suspended he announced his retirement from representative football. At the time I thought that’s great we don’t have to worry about the risk of injury while playing these games.

But I don’t think any player should be able to retire then turn around and say I’ve changed my mind to try and say I would have been picked so those games should count as part of my suspension.

If he never announced his retirement then he should be able to use those games as everyone knows he would have been selected in the extended team.

There's merit in what you say, but an injury could be deliberately staged in the right circumstances.

EG: Drew Aubusson gets tackled high during a game by Ponga who is having a blinder. The high shot has attracted a penalty for Easts but Ponga stays on the field and continues carving up the opponents. He's also zipped past Drew for two scintillating tries. Easts are still in the match with 30 minutes to go, but Drew Aubs has been his usual handbrake all game. The coach hauls him off the field which forces Ponga to also leave the game. Drew is replaced by Sam Walker and Ponga is replaced by a nufty. Walker sets up 2 tries and scores his own 4 pointer then kicks a field goal to win the game, while at the same time, Ponga's replacement dropped 2 balls to hand cheap territory to Easts which allowed them to scramble to victory.

1985: 1 try vs Parramatta, 1 try vs Manly, 1 try vs Wests, 2 tries vs Souffs
1986: 2 tries vs Illawarra, 1 try vs Balmain, 2 tries vs Norths.

I agree regarding the retirement. It would open a can of worms if this is allowed and I’m sure plenty would start looking at this loophole..

Benny Hunt may be watching with keen interest. He might also conveniently retire from NRL to get out of his Dragons contract that Flanno won’t release him from just to get itchy feet and sign with the Titans at the start of next year. NRL would want to be very careful.

Mate if you walked into emergency with a broken jaw you would be x-rayed & then taken to theatre’s, it would cost you nothing.

Rep games should never be able to counted towards a suspension. It's a ridiculous rule, so wide open to being manipulated. If it's a fringe player, what do the NRL do, ask the rep team coach "Would you have picked this guy"? my God. what a laughing stock the NRL are to even go down this path. With a supposed crackdown on what players were able to get away with back in the day, and all the head injuries stuff nowadays, why on earth would you allow a rortable loophole like this that reduces the only thing the player care about - missing games.

Batesy...the NRL and the clubs of course given the nature of the industry they're in, obviously have the highest grade of private health cover and insurance known to man. No-one is handing over cash to get a procedure done mate.

It depends on the grade and previous offences in the category the player is charged plus player records are reset on a rolling 12-month period since their last offence.

I notice that Jack Wighton is re-considering his representative retirement, which is iffy since he has been referred directly to the judiciary for the biting allegation.

The Broncos NRLW player was sent off and suspended for 2 weeks for biting Roosters player Jayme Fressard, so going by that, Wighton, if found guilty, would be looking at 5 to 6 weeks.
Yeah but having JWH sit out for so long seems laughable in the scheme of things

I know mate but inevitably someone has to foot the bill which is substantially more than the measly $1800 fine. Don't think it doesn't effect us as it pushes up our health insurance premiums and waiting times in the public system.
