I’ve been critical of him all year but he was brilliant tonight. While others wanted to play on the sideline he ran straight & hard & set up most of our attacking plays.

I think part of the issue was his body positioning. Commentators have said it in the past that an experienced catcher will position their body such that the ball will bounce backwards if they drop it. Those kicks are difficult to catch and nobody gets them 100% of the time.

IMO he was focussing too much on having a foot in-goal and not enough on the catch itself. Unfortunate but he did a lot more good than bad in that game. Also as you said... the fact he was the only person there says it all.
