  • Which of our Players will be gone by 2024?

Think we are all aware that Hutch and the Fletching Baker are gone at years end (thanks for the service boys) but, who will join them?

Pauga, Crichton, Suaalii, Momo, Allen. ??????

Jaxson Paulo signed with Manly, so he's off. I posted on another thread we have 25 odd first graders contending for 17 spots. I suspect Pauga will be gone, Allan as you mentioned and Momo will be allowed to look for another contract. I'm going to go outside of the box and say Sitili might be told he can go look for another contract if Crichton ends up re-signing. He's stuck atm behind Wong, Nat Butcher, Crichton, Egan (somehow) and I'd say on pure potential Whyte as well.

You have squads of up to 30 for a reason but due to the cap it's impossible to have 2 NRL sides so there are players in your squad that will always be filling in for a handful of games during the year.

It's when these players have to play blocks of games that your squad depth is tested and your season could come undone as a result.

If the Roosters have a light injury run there will be true competition for spots in the 17 as players vying for positions are players that can play NRL week in week out.

For an example back row - if only 2 to be selected in the 17 there are 5 to chose from if all available -all can play NRL week in week out
        • N Butcher
        • E Butcher
        • Wong
        • Crichton
        • Sitili
Whyte is listed as a backrower but is possibly more of a front rower ?

We've got 5 quality outside backs vying for 4 position. I'm starting to think that Billy Smith may not be playing round 1 unless Suaalii heads over to RU next season.

I thought read somewhere Pauga had just re-signed with us for another year or two. Hope this is the case, great depth winger.

I’d be happy to see Suualli or Crichton go as they are surplus to requirements with our depth in their positions plus they are on bigger salaries.

Suaali needs to stay next season. If he plays last night we win. Blame our amateur doctor for taking that decision out of our hands and into the corrupt NRLs.

The squad seems to be pretty settled in terms of comings and goings the with only Nathan Brown & Corey Allan without a contract for next year at this point.

Obviously some question marks over Suaalii & Crichton's heads given the media reports but I expect we will know in the next 4-8 weeks whether they are staying or going. Combined they're on 1.4m worth of salary cap space which would go a long way to some contract upgrades and potentially one key signing.

Sitili when fit is in our top 3 second rowers to choose from. I’d even argue top 2. Nat a tackling machine but offers hardly anything in attack compared to what Sitili does. Egan??? I’ll hold my tongue. Crichton? That guy is on double the money for half the performance. I’d be very happy if he went to Union because it would free up a substantial amount in the cap - which we can use to re-sign players such as May, Whyte, Wong etc. Prior to injury, Sitili was starting games and firing. Not sure what you’ve been watching at all. Maybe you think he’s been available to be picked the past few games and just no been chosen. He’s been out for the last 3 months with a disk problem.

Problem is there's no genuine left edge player in our side, since Cordner we haven't had a edge back rower with a left hand carry who naturally fits that role. Crichton was seriously top tier in that role in the back half of last season but seems to have regressed again this year.

I can see Wong & Tupouniua sharing that right edge role next year, it's not typical of Robinson as he likes 80min edge backrowers but given both have the versatility to play in the middle as well, Tupouniua is returning from 2 serious injuries and Wong is only starting his career I could see him doing it.

The question is who plays left edge.
