Breaks down the salary cap for each year to the end of 2027 including the rising minimum amount, mentions that layers on your extended list will be eligible to play from round 1 not round 11 going forward . Mentions any player with 11 years service with your club will be assesed at 5% of contract value, 10% if 9 years. Players developed by the club who debut with the club after minimum 2 years in pathways 10 %.. I thought u would be on to this by now mate. Go sniff it out Houndog.

It is still so ridiculous it can't be right. Imagine Panthers offering lifetime contracts for all their stars and each taking up only 5% of the salary cap in a few years' time.

Totally agree with you no matter which way u look at it sounds ridiculous . Have you read the actual article? I am on a farm until Tuesday about 40k from any shops so i had no access to a paper and couldnt find it online,was hoping someone might post a copy. My guess would be that you will be entitled to a 10% discount on any player who comes through your clubs pathway. So Wong signs an extension at say 500 and gets assessed at 450.Not sure about the %ge discount for a player with 11 or 9 years service, maybe a flat discount of 250 and 150 respectively.

i.e 30 players signed - The Full 12 million cap grant is expended

The Club can claim 2 million in a variety of discounts so only 10 of 12 mill of the cap grant is deemed to be expended.

The club then has 2 million extra to spend which can only be used to top up contracts of the 30 player squad as they have signed the maximum 30 players

Thus 14 million is actually spent on players wages but only 12 mill is included under the cap

That 250k has been increased to 300, minimum for a top 30 player increased from 120 to 130 for 2024. 95% of the cap must be spent and i think any unused can be forwarded to the following season.

The Sydney Roosters have confirmed five new departures at their end of season awards night, with four players still having their futures in the balance.

It means that, in total, the Roosters will have lost nine players from their 2023 squad heading into 2024.

While Fletcher Baker (Brisbane Broncos), Jaxson Paulo (Manly Sea Eagles), Vuate Karawalevu (mid-season, rugby union Matthew Lodge (mid-season, Manly Sea Eagles) and Tuku Hau Tapuha (mid-season, Cronulla Sharks) had already been confirmed as leaving the club, coach Trent Robinson confirmed Ben Thomas, Thomas Deakin, Nathan Brown, Jake Turpin and Drew Hutchison would all leave the club.

It was confirmed that Deakin will join the Huddersfield Giants in the English Super League, however, clubs for the remaining quartet are yet to be confirmed.

Hutchison is the only one rumoured to have found a new home at this stage, with the utility, who has spent five years at Bondi, heavily linked to the Canterbury Bulldogs, who are expected to make a series of signings in the coming weeks.

Billy Smith is the most likely of the quartet to be announced as an official re-signing. He said earlier in the year that he had already worked through a new deal, but there has been no announcement from the club.

Corey Allan and Connor Watson are the other duo who remain off-contract.

Allan has recently been linked with a departure from the tri-colours despite serving as a handy back up option in the outside backs during 2023, while Connor Watson, who hasn't played a game all season, reportedly has a number of clubs showing interest.

It wasn't made official by the club, which probably means pen wasn't on paper. Seeing as it has yet to be made official, there has obviously been a hold-up, my guess being around the emergence of Sandon Smith and Connor's place in the 17 not being guaranteed. Same with Billy Smith, which was reported on here a couple months ago, but not yet made official. Interestingly enough, the original SMH article of B.Smith has been taken down I believe. My guess is that he wants more money to reflect his end of season form + Suaalii looks to be staying which I would assume was not going to be the case when he originally 're-signed'

No it is actually the players contract, not the entire salary cap, which made even less sense. The NRL sent a !9 page document to all clubs and player managers last week. There will be an overall ceiling on the total discounts so the club will have to nominate which players it applies to therefore nullifying a club like Penrith doing what u suggest.It will probably greatly disadvantage a club like Canterbury who have a high turnover of rubbish players not developing much and having no players qualify for 9 or 11 year discounts.
