NRL 2023, Nathan Merritt awakes from coma, condition, update, news, latest (foxsports.com.au)
South Sydney legend Nathan Merritt has reportedly woken from his coma having been on life support since last week.
The Daily Telegraph reports that Merritt emerged from his coma on Friday afternoon and has since spoken with his father.
Merritt is reportedly in a stable condition at Sydney’s Royal Prince Alfred Hospital — where his family have kept a bedside vigil — after he suffered an adverse reaction to prescribed pain medication last Friday.
He collapsed while staying with a family member, and was said to still be in critical condition just days ago.
Souths released a statement on social media on Thursday, revealing that Merritt’s condition had been “improving”.
The statement added: “We are so happy to hear directly from his immediate family that Merro’s condition is improving. He is being looked after by the best medical practitioners, and he is in the thoughts of everyone connected to the Rabbitohs.
“It will be a slow recovery, but it’s a battle he’s in with all of our support.“Keep fighting hard with that South Sydney spirit, Merro! You’re always a Rabbitoh! #974.”

My favourite Nathan Merritt memory was in round 1 of the 2010 season. The Roosters were smashing souffs when Merritt made a break. He was in the clear racing away to the tryline when he dropped the ball cold.
All the best to Nathan and his family. I pray that God blesses him with a speedy recovery

Good news.
Glad it was an accident rather than another suicide as well. I know it's bad to assume but that's what came to my mind as soon as I heard he was crook.
