Possibly and possibly not.. The club gets a total $200K allowance for long serving players (8 years or more of continuous first grade service). If Mini gets $200K for 2013 then there is no savings for Perrett. That said presuming Mini retires at the end of next season Perrett will the only eligible player at the club for the allowance in 2014 so it could influence the decision.. I expect they will keep him.

There is also talk the exemptions will be increased. Pearce must be getting close i.e at least part of his next contract will utilise the exemptions also.

Pearce Aubo and SKD are all eligible come the 2015 season... all debuted 2007 (thats if the allowance is 8 years from 1st grade debut)

surely he will slot into left centre, it was the position he trained the entire off season at before he hurt his ankle in the last trial against the Tigers, also from what I have seen of him, he is not that confident under the high ball.

unfortunately that means its left wing again for BJ, no better options at the moment.
BJ is better on wing he scored 10 tries on wing last year

Can you negotiate a contract and allow for these exemptions down the track? Eg, Pearce signs a 4 year deal in late 2013 for 2014,15,16 & 17 will 2015 and beyond be accounted for it does it have to be negotiated at the time? The salary cap perplexes me at times.

I think the way it works is that a certain amount of the salary owed is kept outside of the salary cap. So once Pearce reaches 8 years he will still be on his original contract but the full value won't count against our cap room.

                    I could be wrong though.

                      Sounds logical.

That would be right.. Of course there will be a limit as to what can be excluded.

No, the exemption is for a maximum $ amount, and can be distributed any way you like among eligible players. It actually makes no difference to the player, or the Cap, how you do it.

"The Warriors will be 1-17. Boom rookie Tautau Moga has travelled with the Roosters' first grade side and may be a last-minute addition on the wing at the expense of Peni Tagive. Jack Bosden travelled as 18th man."
