  • Dom Young hospitalized

Roosters star recruit Dom Young has been hospitalised and ruled out of England’s series against Tonga after a sinus infection spread to his brain.

Young, who this year broke the Knights’ single-season try-scoring record, was struggling with headaches before the plane trip to England for the Test series exacerbated things.

The 22-year-old has spent the past week in hospital but he’s expected to make a full recovery in time for the Roosters’ season opener in Las Vegas next March.

Young’s agent Michael Cincotta has confirmed to multiple media outlets the severity of his client’s condition, but emphasised the winger is now on the mend.

“Dom is going really well, he’s feeling a lot better and will be ready to go for the Roosters,” Cincotta told Fox Sports.

He told WWOS: “It was pretty frightening because he was getting severe headaches and got so bad that he couldn’t stand any sort of bright light.

“It pushed his condition over the edge and he wasn’t good.

“They put him in hospital and traced it back to a sinus infection that spread throughout his head.

“But he is past the worst of it now thanks to antibiotics and the good care he is getting in hospital.

“He is not 100 per cent over it yet - it was pretty severe - but he is on the mend and after a bit of a break he will be right to rejoin the Roosters.

“But it is a blow as he was really looking forward to playing for England against Tonga - he will have to wait for his next chance now.”

England coach Shaun Wane was asked about Young’s absence ahead of their series opener against Tonga last weekend, which the hosts won 22-18 in St Helens.

“He’s in hospital with an illness (and) will be assessed next week,” Wane told NRL.com.

It's a wonder Dominic Young didn't suffer an injury of some sort when he signed with the Roosters - Need Brian Cooley's magic sticks to reverse the curse

Hope Dominic recovers and wish him well and welcome to the roosters!

But what the hell is this damn curse on our club? Even players that have not played a game yet are targeted! It’s ridiculous. This will affect Young’s pre season preparations? That’s just what we need. We are doing fantastic as a club that has had so many injuries/suspension but take them away and we are easily premiers the last two seasons if we are at full strength and in top form.

I hope he's ok. Sounds serious.

          We are cursed. 100% confirmed.

It's the Ben Cummin's 6a call curse. Ever since that GF win, we've been cursed with injuries.

Let's not catastrophize. It's a bloody sinus infection, not an ACL strain. A couple of weeks of anti-biotics and he is 100% fine. He hasn't even been formally ruled out of the England v Tonga series. This is not a big deal.

Which can lead to meningitis and be life-threatening if not treated.

I remember reading that John Lydon (Johnny Rotten) contracted meningitis at age 7 and was in a coma for 7 months.

Nothing to sneeze at, pardon the pun.

But it is being treated, and he is already greatly improved. His manager has said it won't effect his pre-season. The England coach has indicated that he will be assessed for availability for later games in the Tonga series. While it could potentially have been very nasty, there is no reason at this point in time to blow this out of proportion.

I'll never forgot that solo try he scored at Shark Park.

Bingo. People are acting as if he's dead. Sounds more like he has a REALLY bad sinus infection and his meds have been effective. Might mean he misses the next week of footy or whatever, but it won't impact his pre-season.
