  • Sandon Smith Extends!

    https://www.roosters.com.au/news/202...wo-more-years/

The Sydney Roosters have today announced that up-and-coming player Sandon Smith has extended for a further two years, keeping him at the Club until at least the end of 2026.

Having joined the Club as a 15-year-old, Smith is the first player to progress to the NRL via the Sydney Roosters’ Central Coast Partnership.

Able to play anywhere in the spine, 20-year-old Smith made his NRL debut in Round 14 of the 2023 season and completed his maiden year in the top grade with 15 appearances.

He is a former recipient of the Club’s SG Ball Player of the Year award (2021) and Sydney Roosters Rising Star award (2018).

“I love being part of the crew we have here at the Roosters. It’s my home and I’m learning so much from the coaches and senior players every day. I’m excited to keep learning, working hard and building my career as a Rooster,” said Smith.

Sydney Roosters Head Coach Trent Robinson was pleased to have Smith locked into the Club’s long-term plans.

“Sandon’s a really proud Coastie, and we’re proud that he’s the first player to progress to the NRL via our partnership with the Central Coast,” said Robinson.

“I love working with Sandon. The talent has always been there and he’s constantly striving to be the best player and person he can be, so its really pleasing that he will continue to represent the Sydney Roosters, and not only the Eastern Suburbs, but also the Central Coast,” he added.

Smith combines his training commitments with study for a Bachelor of Construction Management and Property.

Outstanding news. Sandon is the future of our halves.

As good as Walker is, and will be, I actually think that Sandon could become the better all round player.

        Great News

The real question is, is Sandon the long term #6 or a #9?

Not much difference in size between Luke Keary and Sandon Smith which leaves me in no doubt that Sandon will be Luke’s successor at 6,he has all the tools!

I’m happy we have locked him up for the next couple of years.

we are pushing hard with these re signings and making the right moves
sounds like sitili done and may and Manu will be soon
jwh to retire, and tupou and Keary up in the air
Gus critchon will need a huge season to get an extension and should only be a 1 year knowing his record
