  • Sitili Tupouniua signs three-year extension

    https://www.roosters.com.au/news/202...ear-extension/

The Sydney Roosters have today announced that Sitili Tupouniua has signed a three-year extension, ensuring he remains with the Eastern Suburbs Club until at least the end of 2027.

Tupouniua expressed his enthusiasm about extending his stay at the Roosters.

“This Club has become a second family to me so I’m really happy to continue my journey with the Roosters,” said Tupouniua.

“I’m committed to giving my all for this Club and I’m excited to contribute to the team’s success in the coming years,” he added.

Known for his on-field prowess and skill set, the bustling backrower made his NRL debut with the Roosters in 2018 and has played 85 top-grade games.

He made a successful return from an ACL injury in Round 8 of the 2023 season, however a neck injury cut his season to just eight games.

Roosters Head Coach, Trent Robinson, was looking forward to continuing to work with Tupouniua in the coming seasons.

“Sitili is a genuinely good person and I’ve loved watching his development over the years,” said Robinson.

“His dedication and commitment to improvement make him a key component of our future plans so it’s exciting that he will continue to be a part of the Roosters family,” he added.

Tupouniua is a product of the Roosters Pathway Program. Together with teammates Nat Butcher and Joseph Manu, he was a member of the Club’s 2016 Under 20s title-winning side.

In the representative arena, 26-year-old Tupouniua has played three Tests for Mate Ma’a Tonga (2019-2022).

I believe a good re-signing as he has a very bright future and a bucketload of potential as long as he remains injury free.

No doubt when fit always has a spot in our best 17... off the bench to start the year for mine. Awesome through the middle against a tired defence with his footwork.

          This is great news.

1985: 1 try vs Parramatta, 1 try vs Manly, 1 try vs Wests, 2 tries vs Souffs
1986: 2 tries vs Illawarra, 1 try vs Balmain, 2 tries vs Norths.

Great news, but geez Angus must be feeling a little nervous.

I would say he would have to take a reduction to stay.

I’ve never particularly liked Sitili, but prior to his injury this year he was going gangbusters, and he certainly has talent.

Super happy with the re-signing spree we’re on.

I won't be surprised if he switches to another club next year.

If Sitili can find the inner beast that lurks deep beneath the surface he can be anything.

Onion man, It's time to peel off some layers and believe you can fly.

It looked like he fixed his defense in the few games he played this year...

Now if he can also fix his flipper hands he will be a gun

He brings energy into the side. He’s X-Factor. When he came back from his ACL he took no time to get back to his best. Was a big loss for us when he copped that shoulder injury.

Time to piss Angus off. No value for money there.

Agreed. Angus is not worth half of what he’s currently on given his 2023 performances. He has the skill, but does he have the will?

I was a fan of Angus but he seems surplus to current requirements.
