  • JWH missing Vegas, but 2 South’s players cleared.

Could anyone explain why NRL knocked back Roosters application to count the Allstars game in JWH suspension but South’s had 2 players successfully appeal and now able to play round one.

Gagai and Wighton have been cleared to use the Allstars game.

Have NRL explained why JWH couldn’t use the game?

Probably because he didn't play in it last year so can't claim incumbency.

      Extract from DT.

Jacob Gagai has been cleared to make his first grade debut in Las Vegas after the NRL intervened to overturn a NSWRL ruling lacking in “common sense, consistency or cultural awareness.”

The NRL has come in over the top of the NSWRL to allow Jacob Gagai to be eligible to make his debut for the Rabbitohs in Las Vegas in what South Sydney described would have been a “substantial injustice”.

The move frees Gagai to potentially play his first match at 28 after a long path to the top grade.

A furious South Sydney blasted the NSWRL after the state body refused to allow Gagai to count his selection in the Maori All Stars against a one-match suspension he received at the end of last year playing for the Rabbitohs’ NSW Cup side.

Instead it was ruled that he had to serve his ban in round one thus ruling him out of a depleted South Sydney backline.

Gagai was ruled out of the Maori All Stars clash because of the suspension. Souths centre Jack Wighton was allowed to count the All Stars game as part of a suspension he incurred at the end of last season.

Likewise, Latrell Mitchell had the All Stars counted as part of a suspension he received in the latter stages of the 2021 season.

According to a NSWRL statement, judiciary chair Abood’s approach to the Gagai situation was specifically covered in the judiciary rules and he should not be the subject of criticism.

“The chair’s decision was made in accordance with the judiciary rules and the NSWRL has full confidence in the process which was followed.”

He was selected though and withdrew due to injury.

Keeping in mind Jacob Gagai didn’t play last year either.

Vegas means everything for the NRL to ensure they showcase the game.
They'll manipulate the rules and apply flexibility when it suits.
How absurd that Hungry Jack Bighton was allowed to include the All Stars game as part of his suspension but not JWH..farkin hypocrites

JWH shouldve played in the Allstars to highlight the hypocrisy, but he didn't so we don't have a leg to stand on..

You have to be kidding me.
1985: 1 try vs Parramatta, 1 try vs Manly, 1 try vs Wests, 2 tries vs Souffs
1986: 2 tries vs Illawarra, 1 try vs Balmain, 2 tries vs Norths.

So how come JWH didn’t play in the all stars game since it didn’t count?

I count him lucky anyway that the NZ games were included and he’ll only miss the first game, does he still travel with the team?

I don’t have much sympathy for JWH, he put himself in this situation.

More concerned around the NRL’s lack of consistency.

I can’t remember the last time jwh played in an all star match, seems to always pull out if he is selected, fair enough if they didn’t count it.

JWH will be back in round 2 - 3 of the NZ games were counted so probably stretching it to also include the All Star game.

I would like to see a proper All Star game if they go to 2 conferences - players picked for either side wear their club jersey.

I was just wondering if anyone knew if the NRL gave a reason.
The article was just released. I thought it was worth discussion.

I don’t either. I’ll be glad when he’s gone and we can replace him with someone who doesn’t sit out most of his contract on the sidelines. He’s been a great player but enough is enough. Sick and tired of him leaving us with 12 men. Not to mention Radley.

Trial matches do not count as suspensions, so why does a nothing game where you can only play if you are a certain race count? It's got to be both or neither, otherwise it's discrimination.
