Now in regards to my comment about the narrow field negating Walsh I think it did. and some on here before the game thought it might help us. Keary after the game mentioned the middle of the field was tighter and it affected those out the back plays Something Walsh thrives on

Yeah I must be stupid because the width of the field has nothing to do with a FB. It’s the same width for everyone & it’s not as if Walsh runs outside the sideline to score or pass. It affects the blokes outside who run down the line like Toops who run more risk getting pushed into the wall,but that’s about it. The shorter in goal hurts kickers as less room to play with,but again that’s not Walsh.
in Jean they all play in the same field & I’ve played/play Aussie rules & cricket & every oval is different all over the world in length,width,curve etc so not sure why league as a sport has so many issues if slightly different. The pommies play on shorter overall pitches as well,so it’s a non factor for them.

FWIW I think Walsh comes across as being humble and a pretty decent dude (and he is very talented).

However I don't think the current Brisbane squad's destined for greatness. Also, IMO he'll become a bit of a Ponga if he stays there too long. Talented dude who's always up for Origin, but nothing else. No growth in his game over the years and no premierships/leadership growth...etc aside from being told 'well mate you're half our salary cap so you've gotta lead!!!'

For the Chooks to have a big year, the senior players need to be near their best week in and week-out: Tedesco, Keary, Manu, JWH, Brandon Smith, Radley, Collins, Toops, and Crichton when he plays. That will drag the rest of the players along with them.

After that game I must ask the question just who is Reece Walsh? Teddy was the superstar of the show making Reece look second class and amateurish. The NSW and Australian jumper and captaincy are Teddy’s this year on that form. Teddy scored a 9.9 and Reece only about 3. An ocean of difference. How could they even compare him to a professional like Teddy is beyond me.

walsh is arguably the most brilliant player in the comp but he's got a lot of errors in him but yeah teddy owned him today

Walsh's ego is his undoing.

I agree with Izzy on this one - Walsh doesn't appear to have much of an ego beyond what he's entitled to have. What he does have though is boundless enthusiasm for the game. He's everywhere, in everything, tireless and very tough. That cannonball on Toups was a classic, you saw the pace he reached coming across in D. Toups is a big guy but went out at 90 degrees.

I played a season with Coogee Wombats back in the 50s and the Fullback (all of 15 years) was the best exponent of the cannonball I've ever seen - there'd be 3 or 4 a game. His name was "Jap" Haynes, so called because his eyes were slightly Asiatic. When I was teaching at South Sydney High I came across ol' Jap in "Legends" photos in the school foyer. Sitting up front holding the 10 stone 7 Premiers ball. He'd be 80 now if he hasn't been cannonballed himself.
