  • Interesting to hear Vlandy’s comments today from the airport mention Spencer deserves his right of say and innocent until proven guilty..

So correct me if I’m wrong but surely if their’s no clear evidence the case gets thrown out?

Its just not okay and something I certainly don't want associated with our club.

The more he defends it the worse it looks. His comments on radio after the game made it worse. How someone let him be interviewed after the game is beyond me.
Mitchell has been shouting for half a season ban of 12 weeks. Just hope he gets maybe a fine. But 12 weeks would be a disaster. The bigger issue is America is a racist sensitive country and if we want to return to Vegas then he may have to be made an example of. Americans will want to see we take racism seriously. But if it happened here I think he would if proven get only a fine or a couple of weeks.

      • With the talk of an 8 week penalty to be handed down I’d like to know why the NRL deems calling a player a monkey a worse offence than sexual assault of a woman (as was the case with Dylan Brown last year). There was not half as much outrage over that incident, most definitely didn’t see Latrell calling for Brown to face half a season suspension.

I’m not sure what world we now live in where a man calling another grown man a monkey is more of a crime than sexual assault but I guess I can just be happy that I have a son and not a daughter if this is a sign of things to come.

Will he just tell the baying mob what they want to hear, and toe the PC line? Or will he support his man and make a statement about the abuse of the term racism nowadays?
          Or somewhere in between?

He's a great man Robbo, but I'm fearing the worst.

Im trying to understand.....you want Robbo to make a statement about the abuse of the term racism nowadays, which will support Leniu? If you were preparing this statement exactly how would it go??

Haha...never give an orator a platform if you might not like what you hear.

If I was his speech writer I'd slip him something like this..

" Rugby League is an incredibly inclusive game especially at the elite level, and proudly embraces a range of cultures and backgrounds. Young men and women are afforded some wonderful opportunities in our sport, unconditionally. If something goes wrong and offence is taken by an individual, that needs to be respected and listened to. That happened in our game in Vegas and Ezra made a decision to call this out. I completely respect his right to do this, and have the matter dealt with through the appropriate channels. Equally Spencer should be given the opportunity to state his case as well. The most important thing is we all learn from this, and move forward to honour our game and all the individuals involved in it. Overt racism is bad and we need to continue to take a mature educated response in our society to reject it. I think we also need to adopt a proportional response to comments said during a game in the heat of battle. Thats different from discriminating or persecuting someone due to their race. If we put them all in the same bucket I feel we cheapen the term racism and miss the real meaning of equality and inclusion in our society. We are desd serious at the Roosters about developing respectful young men and women, and will continue to learn and grow that culture to honour this great game and all its participants ".

NRL 360 stated that there was no audio evidence of the comment. I’m not sure how reliable NRL360’s knowledge is but if that’s true than Spencer’s case has become a lot easier

So is this now just Brisbane’s word against Leinu/Roosters word? And this is the same group of blokes who lied to the judiciary about what Walsh said to the referee last season? What an absolute mess this all is and part to blame are the NRL - the hearing is next Tuesday. This needed to be fastracked and sorted quickly. Yet in the meantime, we have clowns like Latrell, Walker, and Hynes coming out and putting swords to Spencers throat, and the media jumping on the back of it.
                Swords?

                  • I was watching pre game interview with V’Landys he was sitting right next to one of the FoxSport commentators on the field.
He kept on asking her to repeat the question as the stadium was so load he was having difficulty hearing her.
Of course we have Broncos players saying they heard the Monkey sledge. Or perhaps they are just going along with their team mate?

                    • When Latrell Mitchell is acting as the voice of reason - you know it’s well and truly become a right mess. Needs to focus more on his team and contribution on field, as opposed to making cameo in game appearances and nicknaming stadiums. This should have been sorted as soon as possible after it happened - dragging it out has brought out the idiots.

But they also added two Broncos players allege they heard what was said. Hardly independent so surely could not be used as supporting evidence. However, Leniu’s own response after the game did himself no favours.

The same Brisbane that lied to the judiciary about when Walsh called the referee a such and such?

                          • I don’t post here much but the media (and social warrior) pile on that is happening to one of our own has me fuming and needing to vent. Yesterday at one point there was no less than 8 articles / clips on the Daily Telegraph website all painting Leniu as pure evil in a human form. Who owns the DT……Newscorp, who owns 68.8% of the Brisbane Broncos… Newscorp. The same organisation who owns the Broncos is dictating the narrative and indirectly putting pressure on the NRL for an outcome which appeases the mob which they (and Latrell Mitchell) are inciting. How can this guy possibly get a fair hearing?

Yes I thought the same thing.

Look I hate racism but the bloke deserves a fair hearing and not a trial by media. What happened to the presumption of innocence?
