Something to detract from the Leinu situation - how good was Su in that centre spot? I had my doubts and always rated him as a better winger, but you can understand why Trent has persisted with him there - a performance like that showed the staggering potential. Some great defensive reads, attacked well and ran with a newfound malice. The 1-5 v Manly will be interesting - wouldn’t surprise me if the only change is Young > Pauga. Fan of Billy, but the upside for our backline and team if Su plays as good as he did is massive - cannot see him playing NSW Cup.

So much potential - can earn millions. Good luck to him.

He was very good. Apart from 1 missed tackle on Walsh that lead to a try.

The Lightning will make more experienced players miss this season Brucey.

Yes Aussie Joe was very good. I thought people judged him a bit harshly in his first crack at centre in the top grade.

R6 mentioned his main attractions of skill under the high ball and the power game he has. True but I also think he underrated his pass and step. See his silky hands to release Toups when he got bundled out by Reece. He does have a step too, left foot I think. Seen him beat players with it, no Joey Manu but still..

Problem all along was he's a left centre and not a right centre.

His overall player rating last season Imo was 4/10. Team average of 5.5/10.
His rating for the 1st game of this season Imo 8/10.

We have great depth in our backs!

How anyone thinks Billy Smith is better than him baffles me. That hack can’t even pull off a simple catch and pass

The left side vs right side for Suallii is an interesting point you raise Batesy. After starting with us on the right, where he was developing very well with his big right foot step and right arm carry, the apparently obligatory need to then move him in closer at any price to play centre, meant he moved to the left side. Last season he was all at sea playing on the left side. When we lost Billy before kickoff meaning Suallii had to revert back to the left, I thought oh no.

But he went really well. Still not as well as he'd go on the right, but way better than he used to go on the left. Maybe says something about his overall class and his development.

Left centre is a hard spot to fill. Most of the good left centres (Mitchell, Bradman Best, Stephen Crichton, Jack Wighton) are left footed

IMO a lot of it came down to our backs getting better service as well.

There's still work needed but to me it all flows through. Our forwards were great... 6/7/9 flowed better and then wow... the backs ended up getting better ball rather than a stack of hospital passes.

Even Manu was quiet by his standards last season. The Vegas game reminded me what he's capable of!!! I reckon it's not just JS who's looking better... our SYSTEMS are looking way more on point now.

The right and left sides do mean something, which sides stronger to tackle, which hand you hold the ball in
suaali took his opportunity, wasn’t supposed to play they got put on the wing for young then left centre with Billy going
I was nervous but he went well
he is still limited like a comment on the match day thread saying he plays a brutal game but lacks the finesse of passing game, stepping, fend - he is good but nothing like what they were expecting and not worth the money rugby is paying
he will play many nrl games being the next up man but I think Billy smith will still take the left centre position! Suaali did well though and that’s the squad mentality this year, take your chances and play well each week otherwise someone is coming for your spot

He was great in a less than usual rusty first hit out for both teams. I hope the form continues but it’s only round one.
