I don’t agree with it but sitting up on our high horse only gives us further to fall.
It's part of the game (and a sad part that everyone hates) with the other teams. Not with us.

We gain so much more by being the club that doesn't do it. Compared to a few lousy penalties for dogging it.

Can you imagine Victor laying down to get a penalty?? I can't.

      What do we gain exactly?

we are the nice guys who don’t lay down but still get raped violently with the rough end of a pineapple on a regular basis. Our players cop out of context suspensions, are allowed to be on the receiving end of illegal play yet what does that get us?

About the only advantage I can see is that if we don’t lay down, at least we wont have to get back up as we most likely won’t get a penalty anyway!

      • If Leniu was simply responding in like fashion to something he was called it would be close to the biggest dog act ever by the Bronco's, Surely we wouldn't honor the "what happens on the field stays on the field" in such circumstances.. He shouldn't have to wear the pile on that's been thrown at him if their is any truth to Buzz's mail.. Buzz may be a goose but would he make this up?

You can't take that back. Better to retain your integrity than be like a soccer player.

Would you really rather players at the club you support lay down and fake injuries, just to scrounge the occasional penalty?

          I should clarify:
Hadley says, and I agree, that, "if you're hit illegally (and you're not 100% right), stay down and make them look at it."

          • If our club and players want to have Spencer playing anytime soon they should name any Broncos player who allegedly made a derogatory remark at him, and encourage any Roosters players who heard it to say so and attend the judiciary to give evidence.

I get it but at the same time I think this is a corporate thing rather than an actual trial.

IMO the NRL just wanna whitewash the whole thing without causing public debate. Thus, they don't care whether or not it's actually racist for a black guy to call another black guy black. Also, they don't care whether Mam was calling all the Polynesian boys far more derogatory terms before being an arse in an attempt to milk a penalty.

THEY DON'T CARE!!! They just want it to go away (which includes not seeing Latrell fighting with Mundine and the media giving 100 angles on it).

Modern news cycle. IMO all they want is an apology and a glossy statement that there is zero tolerance towards racism within thr NRL. Done with. All forgotten about within ~2 months so long as everybody shuts their trap and moves on.

Be interesting to see how it would play out if Spencer filed an official complaint about Mam and had Penrith boys backing up claims he'd also been a racist douche during the GF, he'd carried the said behaviour into the Vegas game & he has zero moral standing (plus duuude... look at the video... he tried to milk a penalty for the tackle first, then retrospectively decided to whinge about Monkeygate).

I can't see any good coming of it though as nobody wants WWIII over this. The show must go on and IMO Ezra's biggest punishment here is that he's a little 170cm clown who's probably now p!ssed off a heap of 190cm+ Polynesian front rowers who are sick of his shyte.

              • It's disappointing that Ezra Mam has rejected a face to face apology request by Spencer Leniu he's admitted what he said and apologised publicly and the right thing to do is to apologise in person and shake their hand I hope Mam decides to accept this in the future because this could continue to drag on even after the punishment is handed out since we play them again in a few weeks.

                • As a last comment on this I’d like to say I feel bad for Ezra. How the eff is he going to face the harsh realities of life post footy? Life will post obstacles and you beee to grow a spine and a pair of balls and handle it. Being called a monkey or a wog or a coconut is not hard to ignore, however having a family member suffer through illness or a parent suffer from Alzheimer or cancer and seeing how helpless to are is the stuff that could make you cry, not being called names on a footy field in the best of moment.

Cant handle a word on the field soft carnt.

With Leniu in the corner, silent, the pile-on continues.

This is not a time when 'silence is golden'.

                      • This could get ugly with Mam, Walters and Haas submitting statements to the NRL which I assume the Roosters legal team would have received prior to tonight's hearing.

Mam reportedly has also rejected the apology.

Spencer Leniu will learn something from this, though: to choose his words more carefully and forgo this what happens on the field stay's on the field, especially when playing the Broncos.

I expect our legal team to come out with all guns blazing during the hearing.

Being silent and keeping our cards close to our chests up until this point is a good thing, so as not to give our enemies or the media anything to feed off or speculate ...

                          • There must be truth to the stories that Mam was stirring the pot beforehand with offensive comments or why would he be shying away from nutting it out with Spencer? Maybe because HE would be called out also?

Looking back, maybe this whole thing is an overreaction from that cat Walter’s who appears to be the instigator of the complaint. Mam may have been letting it slide till Billy had a hissy and then Mam had to go along with it?

                            Too many scenarios.

                              • In preparation for the inevitable crucifixion at the judiciary tonight, I thought I'd list some of the longest NRL suspensions up to now. It doesn't include the 7-weeks suspension handed to Jordan McLean for a tackle that put Alex McKinnon in a wheel chair, but it does provide a benchmark for what the NRL might think is a comparable offence to using a highly offensive word:

George Burgess - 9 matches - eye gouging
Travis Burns - 9 matches - intentional high tackle
Greg Bird - 10 matches - deliberate knee to a head
Tony Williams - 10 matches - spear tackle
                                Luke O'Donnell - 11 matches - breaking a player's jaw with a high tackle
Clint Newton - 11 matches - deliberate elbow to the head
                                James Graham - 12 matches - biting a player's ear
John Hopoate - 12 matches - sticking his finger up a player's bum
                                John Hopoate - 17 matches - flying forearm to a player's head
Danny Williams - 18 matches - king hit a player and knocked him unconscious

My prediction is that Lenui will cop a suspension somewhere between a Hopoate bum probe and a Williams knock out. I also predict that Latrell will be outraged by the leniency of this sentence.
