I'm hoping for the best but I would say the NRL are going to crucify him. Gotta protect the brand.

It doesn't include the 7-weeks suspension handed to Jordan McLean for a tackle that put Alex McKinnon in a wheel chair, but it does provide a benchmark for what the NRL might think is a comparable offence to using a highly offensive word:
George Burgess - 9 matches - eye gouging
Travis Burns - 9 matches - intentional high tackle
Greg Bird - 10 matches - deliberate knee to a head
Tony Williams - 10 matches - spear tackle
Luke O'Donnell - 11 matches - breaking a player's jaw with a high tackle
Clint Newton - 11 matches - deliberate elbow to the head
James Graham - 12 matches - biting a player's ear
John Hopoate - 12 matches - sticking his finger up a player's bum
John Hopoate - 17 matches - flying forearm to a player's head
Danny Williams - 18 matches - king hit a player and knocked him unconscious
My prediction is that Lenui will cop a suspension somewhere between a Hopoate bum probe and a Williams knock out. I also predict that Latrell will be outraged by the leniency of this sentence.

How will the judiciary define what a racist comment is? They need to actually be convinced that Spenser knew that calling someone a monkey is racists as opposed to calling someone a goose or donkey or clown.
He may have knew...most likely did know...but who knows.
Ezra has that high energy game like a monkey .... and his wild hair! Is that racist? Cliff Lyon looks like Paddle Pop lion! Mark Omeley looked like Shrek....
It will be an interesting night!

With Leniu in the corner, silent, the pile-on continues.
This is not a time when 'silence is golden'.
He who took the Bill Clinton defence from 2004 amidst some disturbing circumstances in Coffs Harbour...."I did not have sexual relations with that woman".
But, whatever you do, please don't call someone a monkey on the footy field. Nothing worse.

If something was said that Spencer retaliated to that Spencer will not now even bring up, even when it could help him when he's facing weeks on the sideline, he and the club earn respect.
We don't lay down for penalties, we don't snitch.

> The NRL's judiciary has not dealt with a racism scandal in the past decade, with Paul Gallen the last player found guilty of such an act on the field. He was fined $10,000 in 2009, and he issued a public apology and stood down as Cronulla captain.
> Before him, Bryan Fletcher was suspended for one match in 2005 for a racial slur, for which he also apologised and stood down as South Sydney captain.
> The judiciary did hand down a four-match ban for a homophobic comment made by Warriors winger Marcelo Montoya in 2022, in the only comparable offence of recent times.
---
Noting that Montoya said 'Get up Kyle, you faggott' and it was picked up by a mic, the NRL's got no precedent to give Spencer more than 4 weeks for an-field discrimination offence. IMO there's a strong argument that Spencer's offence is of a less serious nature.
As the MRC is not a legal process, it's really just the NRL having to do the unenviable task of finding something that will protect it from claims of racism/intolerance without being ridiculously disproportionate.
Latrell and co have set the bar at 12+ weeks or they're gonna crack a shyte. I think 4 weeks would be harsh based on previous penalties that have been handed out. IMO the NRL will just pick a random number between the 2 and won't dare to chastise Latrell for his lobbying efforts.
Such is life really. IMO the sooner this shyte goes away and we can focus on the footy, the better. Looking forward to seeing some of our boys hammer Mam on the field now.

Mitchell Pearce was fined $125,000, with $50,000 of it suspended for two years, and banned for eight weeks over the Australia Day video controversy that landed the Sydney Roosters halfback in strife during the pre-season. hmmmm we are roosters so here comes the 10 weeks.
The nrl will have to grade every demeaning and racist work so to have a fine to match each word.
the n word $10k or $20k plus 6 weeks if directed at a non white person
monkey $5k or $10k plus 6 weeks if directed at a non white person

Sam Kerr = probably nothing, thrown out. Her actions caught on police cam. Soccer Oz and Chelsae stick by her. Still Captain of Australia.
Leniu = Smashed by everyone in the media / social media. Tried and convicted by the NRL already before his case hits the court. No audio of the event. Will be made an example of by the lefties.

If he gets any more than a few weeks off, its a good old fashioned stitch-up..
I think the main thing now, whatever the outcome, is that we all rally around our new signing. He's gonna need a bit of support for a while.
