    Hey legends.

can anyone assist with contact info for admins for this site - just came across a post on Facebook (Sydney Roosters Supporters Group) from a member asking if others are having issues logging into this forum.

a few people have commented no issue, including myself , but I have seen another member say he is having issues on PC but not mobile. Etc etc

I was going to scroll the members menu to look for admin titles, but there was 261 pages?? Crazy haha

For many, many years I have had a problem with this forum but only on game days. Every single game day thread is never in real time for me. It is always lagging by a substantial amount of time, making it pointless for me to contribute to the discussion when it can be up to an hour before I see a reply to a statement. A lot of the time I unfortunately have to read the match thread the day after the match. Almost never had a problem logging in though.

Forget their names but there's a few mods who do most of the grunt work (it's in their title and they'll probably read this). However, I dunno how much control (if any) they have over the backend...etc if the forum's bugging out. I suspect they're more here to manage the community while the owners do the rest.

Won't quote their RL names but I believe there's 2 guys who operate the site (relatively easy to find their names if you know how to navigate that part of the web). One has worked in IT and I suspect he does most of the tech work in his spare time (I think he's a Dolphins fan these days though?)

My guess is that the mods (and others) have a direct line to the techie admin. However as he does it in his spare time and these bugs appear to be along the lines of 'sometimes full threads don't display properly' they're probably a pain in the neck to debug.

I'm fairly certain there's a few people on here who can pass the message on for you.

        ---

FWIW I tried setting up an alternative forum during a period of regular outages. However it's surprisingly expensive and I ended up with lotsa bugs in my system pretty quickly (partly because pesky hackers are rampant these days so even a simple forum can get bombarded by shyte, requiring all sorts of safety measures... which can also cause usability issues).

As such, I greatly appreciate the task of maintaining a forum like this. Particularly in a world with things like Reddit, Twitter and Facebook, which I just can't be stuffed with.

There's an existing thread about this very issue.
It's to do with disabling the protected security (https) associated with the search engine being used.
I can only access this site via mobile phone.

Last time the site went down, when it came back up my desk top computer was affected.
I can read the forum on it but can't post from it.

I can access the forum and post on it via firefox on a tablet and phone.
I assumed that the upgrade Chris made was "the latest modern technology", which seems to be for what most people use today, phones and tablets.

I've noticed some issues as well, especially whilst trying to access the site from my phone (Android - Samsung - using the Google Chrome app). I read somewhere a few months ago to remove the "s" from "https://www.thechookpen.com.au/" but that only seems to work on my PC.

Add that plus the other issues users/members are experiencing, no doubt that the Chookpen site most-likely has some underlying technical issues (perhaps with the website host ?). Hopefully the Admin staff/moderators tackle the issue asap, or at least look into the reported issues.

I'd like to know how to disable ads and fix it so that I don't have to click on hotlinks more than once to navigate the forum topics.
1985: 1 try vs Parramatta, 1 try vs Manly, 1 try vs Wests, 2 tries vs Souffs
1986: 2 tries vs Illawarra, 1 try vs Balmain, 2 tries vs Norths.

If it helps, I'm guessing the admins are aware of this but it's a shyte to debug this kinda stuff.

My (relatively dated & limited) experience with the modern internet is that basically:

                    - When you use a 'content management system' (CMS), hackers regularly find ways to get in. There will later be fixes but they can fark with the database. With any forum I've ever operated... they inject code into your database that farks with it and it can be an absolute d!ck to remove their shyte once it's all through your database (I often just wiped the database and started again but then you lose all your users, posts, themes...etc).

                    - The https stuff keeps all your login/password/activity safe from 3rd parties. However it requires a paid 'certificate' and this shyte can be annoying to get working again when it breaks.

                    - Unless you work in the field and are regularly coding stuff, it can be a bit of a spaghetti to navigate the backend of forums in order to get yourself up to speed with how they work. With families, kids, paid work...etc, setting aside a full weekend (or longer - aaah those were the days) to nerd out and fix shyte can be almost impossible. To boot... if you fark something up while 'fixing' your site, then it could be down indefinitely until you muster up the time/courage to fix it. Thus (speaking for myself at least), I tend to put off 'fixing' such things until the site completely shytes itself and NEEDS fixing. Particularly if there's a workaround.

Thanks DP, that worked for me when using my PC. Hate watching the little screen on my mobile.

I cannot access the site on Google or Microsoft on computer or mobile, but I can access the site on Firefox browser. Probably so many others having the same problem, anyone know why the glitch ?
