  • NRL scheduling

What was the NRL thinking when they decided to give the Rabbits an 8 day turnaround and shaft us with a 5 day turnaround before our rivalry blockbuster game next week.

I mean roosters v souths is a huge matchup regardless but when you factor in Wightons first game in South's colours and big JWH's 300th (fingers crossed) it's mind boggling.

I understand every team cops 5 day turn arounds, but its the timing of this one the blows. We could've played this Saturday and at least had 6 days. I don't know, I just don't get it.. surely you could've straight swapped our game with Sharks/Knights on tonight or Cows/Knights on Saturday arvo. Stadium scheduling and TV ratings obviously come into but I just think it's pretty lacklustre from the NRL.

Rant over, curious to hear others views.

Some good points, but when have you known the NRL to do the Roosters any favours?
1985: 1 try vs Parramatta, 1 try vs Manly, 1 try vs Wests, 2 tries vs Souffs
1986: 2 tries vs Illawarra, 1 try vs Balmain, 2 tries vs Norths.

Storm,Parra and Penrith have 3 5 day turnarounds, we have two both against Souths, I think we are pretty lucky with the draw, after Vegas we don’t leave Sydney until round 9 in Brisbane.

Sometimes the conspiracy theories get a bit ridiculous. We have not been badly done by this season with the draw.

We don’t need to make excuses. We are good enough to win and win well.

Sorry, just to clarify, I don't think our draw is bad, I just think no team should have to face off against another team that has had 3 extra days of recovery/prep (except teams off the bye of course). Especially a rivalry game like this one when it looks avoidable.

Anyway, it is what it is. We should smoke em regardless.

As uncle Nick said a few years ago. It’s not a draw it’s a TV schedule.

Both our games against South’s this season we get 5 day turn arounds Where South’s get an 8 day turn around for this and a 7 day turnaround for rnd 27

Surely just coincidence but what are the odds on that
                When you trust your television
what you get is what you got
Cause when they own the information
they can bend it all they want

I'm not saying its a deliberate conspiracy against us.

But it's definitely a factor for the game. 3 days less to recover and prep than the opposition following what will be a physically demanding game vs Manly. And Souths will be desperate after starting the season 0/2.

Last year wasn't dissimilar. Round 2 Souths played on Thursday. Roosters played on Saturday. So, an 8 & 6 day turn around. Round 26 Souths had the bye and the Roosters played Saturday. All following games were played Friday night. Last year didn't matter as we ended their finals hopes. With any luck round 27 may be a dead rubber anyway if we happen to jag a top 4 or preferably a top 2 finish.

Overall, I think we have a pretty good draw. Byes are well spaced out and are towards the back end of the year. A bit of travel but so does every team but no trips to NZ or Nth. Qld. 11 games at Allianz (includes one away to the Dragons). A trip to Perth against the Dolphins and we have a bye the following week. Away game (for the first time) in magic round. One game against the Panthers (and at home).

But who knows how the season is going to pan out and which teams will improve so you may end up playing one team twice who has fallen by the wayside. So, it is what it is and if we are lucky enough to have a good run without injuries, and if we are good enough then we will deserve to be there.

The AFL has a minimum 6 day turn around - 18 teams - 9 Games - play the same day/nights as the NRL.

Surely the NRL could do the same.

Check the fixture carefully. Several teams have 5-day turnarounds.

I'd say that we asked and pushed the NRL for the longest reasonable distance between our Rd1 match and our Rd2 match. The purpose being to get their body clocks back in synchronization to the AU-EDT. Similar to how we arrived in the US well in advance of the match, to get used to the time zone difference.

I am with Politis view on the comp. It’s a TV schedule not a comp draw.
I don’t buy the NRL spruik with the salary cap keeping the comp even. How can it be even with a tv schedule and skewed timing of teams playing each other via the longer recovery time vs a lesser.
