  • "Cannot remain a captain under this scenario"

This vids a few weeks old but still worthy of attention:
    http://www.abc.net.au/sport/offsider...y&section=news

My gut reaction was that he should have stepped down as Captain. Obviously his furture is elsewhere and some would say he's showing it. But what about the club. What about next year. Wouldn't you want to build a team around a leader that is going to be there for a while? What does it say about our culture?

This is compounded by the fact he is not a solid, star performer. How hard would it have been to have taken him aside and said, step down but throw your endoresment behind, say, Pearce or Mini, and lets pump the new Captain up and build a strong platform for next year.

I cannot see why the club has a captain that is no longer in our plans.
It makes it very hard to believe Brian Smith has a vision for the future. Deadwood does not fester in the most important position of all just because it might be easier to leave Braith where he is.

    Pearce is too thick.

God knows who could be captain.

Maybe they're holding out for Sonny-Bill?

Mate, they have to pick someone next year. You will always find leaders in a squad. This situation is as much a failure of Brian Smith as any recalcitrance on Braiths part.
Just remember, Fitzgibbon was demoted when it became clear he was not in contractual plans.

I repeat, Fitzgibbon was demoted. Roosters bled for that legend.

I'd like to see Hargeaves as Captain.

It'd be the most emotional team in the NRL.

It'd be like they were playing on the rags.

The issue of Captaincy is far too overrated in the code which is NRL.

Captains in NRL have far too little impact whether it be on the result of a game or decisions which need to be made in a game. If you put Mini, or pearce or Aubo in the captaincy role and kept Banasta at 5/8th it would not change a thing.

In other sports, like cricket, captaincy plays a far greater importance.

I mentioned before that it is very rare that a captain is let go to another rival club in the same comp.

I know many on here who believe that mortimer to be a sound replacement for banasta but dare I say it, he may be worse. He may make -1 metres per game.

In all seriousness I don't think we have seen enough of Mortimer this season in our colours in order to say he is a proven player. I think Banasta's only issue is commitment and wanting to play. Mortimer is like the young hungry pup and Anasta is like the old fleabag who can't be bothered getting up for a meal. His attitude is shot and that is what worries me tbh. At the end of last year when our season was pretty much over he actually had some good touches and played like he cared.

Anyway only 15 games to go, keep telling yourselves that.

At the risk of sounding ridiculous.
Braith should be retained as captain until he departs.
Pearce as next in line as he steps up to the mark.
This kid is just starting to show his worth.

Ok, start the tomato throwing....I have my rain coat on.

LOL, we wouldn't have the most skillful team but definitely the meanest.

                    We'd have 6 send offs a match.

I'm going to go buy some green ones!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why persist with that sh*t kicker when he obviously doesn't give an F. Give Aubo a go.

Apparently the Tigers fans have started a petition asking for him to be released to the Tigers now. Maybe they see something different to us: http://www.gopetition.com/petitions/...s-in-2012.html

He's not on the field for 80 mate.

IMO Maubs is da man for the job next season.

80 min player, Cool head, good with the media, respected by the players from all accounts, respected by the coach obviously, doesnt have probs with reffs and less chance to be missing for rep footy.

I always wanted Mozz to be our captain. I thought it would improve the reffs perception of him, ala Toolis. It could work for JWH also but he's not an 80 min player and he's still young and trying to assert his authority. It may seriously get in his way and lower his natural aggression which is his best asset IMO.

Same with Pearce, he isn't great with the media, a rep player and he has enough on his plate being the playmaker etc.

I'd guess Pearce will still call the shots on the field, and Maubs will handle the official stuff. That's how I'd run it anyway.

                              The FlogPen .

                              You know it makes sense.
