Agree with that bit. Some talk like we have the best talent in the league however didn't the warriors win the toyota cup and the broncs are miles better off than us when i comes to talented youth.
If Bellamy came here the first thing he would do is recruit some star players. Having Slater, Cronk and Smith Bellamy knows the value of star players build around a solid team. Just a change of coach isn't enough, Bennett and the knights the perfect example. They like us need a few more star players.
Didn't Bellyache debut and develop Cronk, Slater, Inglis and Smiff???
Well, that's what i want, a try scorer and a match winner like Jennings or hayne or even Gordon. Although Gordon may not have that X-factor.
All the strongest sides have an x-factor, match winners who can turn a match at any moment
Storm - Slater, cronk & Smith
Broncs - Gillet, Hodges, Hoffman
Manly- Lyons, Stewart, Foran & DCE, Williams
Cronulla - Carney & their FB
Dogs - Barba, Pritchard, Morris
Tigers - Marshall, Farah, Lawrence
Warriors - S Johnson, Locke, Matua
etc
Who do we have? SKD once in a blue moon...
good post and what is the common denominator mate LOL... one guess!
I'd take Jennings tomorrow if he was available. I look upon Aboriginal players as talismans. They bring a verve to the Roosters - Artie Beetson, Andy Walker, Amos Roberts, Michael Jennings?

My point is they are already star players. Who are our match winners stsae? Are you happy to wait another 5 to 10 yrs finishing behind the likes of Souffs? And how long are our few quality players gotta be satisfied and stay with us whilst finishing 11th or 12th each yr or abouts? Some players dream about premierships. Throwing buckets to keep our juniors may not be enough.

Jennings is Tongan but i get your drift. You are on the right track.

I watched one of those classic games a week or two ago, 05 I think it was, Cronk on debut, Slater and Smiff without pubes. They lost to a very experienced Boggs team but the funny thing was they looked like us now. They were just building, the signs were there. They were in the game but beaten by experience. From memory they made a GF in 06. Won in 07. Made another in 08. Won in 09. Excluded in 10. MP in 11. Looking the goods 12.
We have some decent kids in the squad. We have a few coming thru. We have a hard pack of kids. We have a very good 1/2. A good 5/8 coming. A FB who is old but amazing each week with his ability to get the job done. The 3/4s are improving and can only benefit from Baloneys experience.
Add a SBW and who knows???
I'm not saying we are gonna be a Melba, but stranger things have happened.
IMO 5-10 yrs is being a drama queen mate. Maybe you need to get back on the cans.
Getting match winners who turn games. We don't have them so the options are buy now or wait 5 yrs in the hope that they may all stay and come good.
I would rather wait, I want ongoing success not a one off season.
Look at players u named before only 3 from 22 were bought thats why they have ongoing success dont u get it mate! Its OK to buy a player someone on the way up a 40 gamer for 200k like Gaigai maybe
Mason
Omealy
Faaosso
Firman
Finch
Chris Walker
Monaghan
Roberts
Harrison
Tonga
Nutley
John Williams
Mellars
Grose
Reily Brown
Chris Beattie
Conn
Graham
Tansey
Kouparisis
Myles
and there are so many many more mostly all duds, look at parra the last 5 yrs! You always pay overs for stars which means less quality in the squad.

Complete Poppycock ya gibber jabberer. Melb didn't win, they cheated in 07 and 09. Slater had that x-factor back then and Smith was all class as well back then.

Agree. But Good is not gonna cut it to win a comp. We need at least one exceptional player, just being good or average is not good enough. Yes baloney will benefit us but but...he is a signing hence this thread lol

lol...yes we need a match winner hence this thread although a back is more of a need than another 2nd rower. You agree with me but you are arguing just for the sake of it. You must be pissed or something....

I'm confident we will buy a match winner sooner rather than later (that's why we chased SBW) so it should be less than 10 yrs. However anyone thinking we can win without a key major signing is deluded imo. I'd rather be a drama queen that completely deluded.

There is so much rage in your posts Rockit, you should down a disco biscuit or bang back a few hot ones.
I can't be arsed arguing with you mate, you have said it all, gone around in circles and you still can't get it.
Have a lovely sleep you deluded drama queen Mr 5-10yrs.

Ironically I think Rocky's list highlights it perfectly, the key is to develop your young players and educate them on the team's philosphy and build that game plan around them. The majority of that list are all players who have been at their club since their teenage years and been developed by their respective clubs.
Jame Lyon*, Todd Carney, Frank Pritchard & Feleti Mateo* are the only ones out of that list who have been purchased, poached however you want to put it after they were established players in the NRL. 4 out of 22 is pretty hard to argue against.
Let the young guys develop over this season and next. There's plenty off contract at the end of next year, whether we are desperate or just need that extra bit of quality to go to the next level. Some interesting one's to me include:
Reed
Widdop
Rein (If Friend is moved on)
Tolman
Gillett
Houston
There's a stack more. The only problem is I want some of them to be 10 year players at their current clubs (Widdop, Gillett and Reed in particular)...
