I’ll put my hand up, i thought sitili was one of our best options for the 2nd row, he has been awful to start the year, defensively poor, and whether it is his fault or the teams, he is not having an impact in attack as he had previously.

He is coming back from a severe ACL injury, and he is a big unit too.

That recovery until he is back to his best will take some time.

ACLs are tricky with forwards. Took SST almost a full season to get back to form, and although he came good he was never quite at 100% again compared to what he was.

I don't expect much out of Sitili in the meantime, and I reckon Nat Butcher should be on the edge with Gus on the interchange (at least for now).

I thought our halves were poor for most of round 1 and today was more of the same. They need to engage the line more and run the ball more often - especially Sam

We look most likely through Teddy and Manu. The halves haven’t looked like setting up points outside of a kick.

I thought he was okay in a game where the Roosters were poor in the fundamentals compared to the Broncos game. - vs Brisbane 52% possession - 8 errors. - 81% set completions (36/44) - Brisbane 77% (31/40) - Time in possession - Roosters 31.14 - Broncos 27.42

You won't win many if any games with 41% possession - 19 errors - time in possession - Manly 30:10 - Roosters 20:41 - Manly 71% set completions ( 32/45) - Roosters 71% (23/32)

The problem in D is inside him - Walker and to a lessor extent Manu - Walker will continue to be targeted. Not sure if Walker is 100% fit either - 4 runs for 33 metres today - Keary 8 runs for 30 metres. - They need to be better than that in Offence.

No Young was definitely at fault for the try, he just didn’t get off the line. Can’t blame Walker or Manu for that.

Many would agree with those sentiments. He wasn’t dropped because of the great service he provided us in those glory years, plus we didn’t really have a decent replacement.

The post was meant to make it sound dire mate. Just my opinion on the game and the fact that we’ve had these halves troubles for quite a while now. I thought they would have learnt their lesson after last year. This low percentage football wont win you premierships. History shows that bar Tigers which was one out of the norm.

Keary is still a gun half on his day, but yes he is past his peak.

But also, he is a good playmaker but not a top organiser. It's always been that way. He has always been at his best with a more conservative organising half next to him (Adam Reynolds, Cooper Cronk for e.g)

I do think it's more important than ever we keep him though, as I still believe his good days will outweigh his bad + we are losing a lot of experience after this season, and there isn't much on the market halves wise.

The 'generals' you speak of who can confidently 'week in week out' direct the team around the park with precision are rare. It's not every day a Cronk comes along.

Cherry Evans, Cleary, Munster, AReynolds are probably the only ones in first grade who do it well and consistently.

It's more important that Walker gets his head right and comes good tbh.

all these calling for kearys head , I agree yesterday was an off day, but tbh I think we would struggle in attack without him . he seems to be at the heart of everything we do attack wise .

also I think someone posted earlier about our kicking metres ,I think both keary and walker look to be getting more distance with their kicks this year . last year our long kicking game lacked difference , but i thought yesterday our long kicks were actually well longish .

I wasn't having a dig at your thread mun. I've always stated that our overall performance relies on Sam walker doing his job. One thing I did notice was how flat our backline was in comparison to the way we played against the Broncos. Keary at times needs to stand deeper which would give him more time and space to ballplay. Manly's line speed was fast and often smothered our shifts.

Yeah I dunno what more Keary can do when one of Manly's strongest forwards is constantly getting 1-on-1 runs where he simply gallops through Keary.

Lotsa lessons to be learned there, including that Manly could be the real deal in 2024.
