  • Sandon Smith elbow injury

According to Fox Sports Smith is expected to be ruled out for this week with an elbow injury.

Team Tips: The Roosters were handed a huge boost on Sunday, with halfback Sam Walker cleared to take the field against the Panthers. He left the field against the Rabbitohs, having deemed to have suffered a category one concussion. However, according to The Daily Telegraph, the Roosters appealed that decision and his head knock was downgraded to a category two, meaning he doesn’t have to sit out for the 11 day mandatory stand down period. Meanwhile, halves partner Luke Keary is also set to return, with this game falling on the 11th day of his own concussion stand down. His return comes as Sandon Smith is set to be ruled out due to an elbow injury Connor Watson will then keep his place in the No.14 jersey. Prop Lindsay Collins also suffered a hamstring injury and could be touch and go for Round 4. There were also concerns surrounding Terrell May’s fitness but he reportedly took part in a recovery session on Sunday. Should Robinson need a bench forward replacement, Siua Wong could be the man to return to the team after he was dropped.

    It's a long season.

Give Smith and Collins the week off.

Do we EVER have a week where someone doesnt get injured and misses the next game. FFS this is getting ridiculous. It goes back many years now. It would seriously be an interesting stat to look at.

The team just issued an injury update doesn't sound great for either Sandon Smith's or Billy Smith's short term playing availability.

The Sydney Roosters squad has been assessed following the Club’s Round 3 match against the South Sydney Rabbitohs.

Sam Walker was taken from the field after having been deemed to have a category one concussion. Having passed two Head Injury Assessments in the sheds on the night, and exhibiting no symptoms since, it has been downgraded to a category two by the NRL and he will be available for the Roosters’ Round 4 match against the Penrith Panthers.

An MRI has confirmed that Lindsay Collins sustained a low grade left hamstring strain. He has commenced the Club’s hamstring rehab protocol.

Sandon Smith suffered an elbow hyperextension just before half time. Scans have shown a significant medial ligament injury to his left elbow. The medical team has commenced rehab on the non-surgical injury and will continue testing to decide his return to play date.

In the NSW Cup match, Billy Smith sustained an ankle injury. Scans have found a small cartilage injury alongside his known lateral ligament injury. He will undergo a arthroscopy today (Monday) to assess the injury further and repair any damage found.

There were no other injury concerns for the other players that featured in the match.

He was holding at it just before half time, so makes sense. Glad to see no injury concerns for May despite coming off early - will need him/JWH/Whyte to be @ their best to compete against Penrith’s pack. Fisher Harris still out so that levels the playing field more with Collins gone.

Reports this morning suggest JFH is a a decent chance to return on Thursday.

Well that’s upsetting. Glad to see a full strength Penrith side get to play an understrength direct competitor yet again. Leinu, Collins, Smith all out - and both our halves coming off a concussion and a false concussion.

Sandon Smith will be out for 2 to 8 weeks if surgical intervention is not required.

                          Elbow Medial Ligament Damage

PROGNOSIS: Grade 1-2 injuries will normally return to normal activities in 2-6 weeks and high-end sport at 8 weeks.

Grade 3 ruptures will have a significantly longer rehabilitation depending on whether surgical intervention is required and how much associated damage is present.

The Sandon Smith injury is a real blow. Was looking forward to seeing him play more. Feel like he's the one.

Hopefully he won’t end up needing surgery.
