  • Dally M ladder

James Tedesco has rocketed into second place on the Dally M leaderboard after he guided his team to a 42-point demolition job over cross-city rivals the Rabbitohs.

Tedesco now trails only 2022 winner Nicho Hynes, who claimed no points in round 3 after the Sharks were sent packing by the West Tigers in coach Benji Marshall's first career win.
    N. Hynes 12
    J. Tedesco 11
    R. Papenhuyzen 10
    T. Trbojevic 10
    Z. Hosking 8
    K. Ponga 7
    L. Brooks 7
    V. Kikau 7
    A. Koroisau 6
    B. Cartwright 6

It’s become a joke. Every player ought to be given a mark after every game , just like the old RLW ratings, only this way you get a fairer overall results.what happens when a team dominates and half a dozen players deserve points? Some miss out with the current system. It’s too flawed IMO.

        Hate the Dally M's.

Points system is inherently flawed, with no appreciation for the subtulties of what goes on on the paddock.

Hookers aside, apart from Taumololo in 2016 (who had to share his award with Cronk), a forward has never won player of the year.

How about instead of a subjective 'vote' from so called impartial judges, we award based on things like

        1. Top tackle count for the season
        2. Top ratio of effective tackles for the season
        3. Top average meters gained for the season
        4. Try assists for the season

        etc etc

Hynes being on 12 points highlights the complete farcical nature of the award. Major overhauls have been necessary for years to make it somewhat relevant again.

Agreed, I hold the RLPA players champion in higher regard these days. For mine it's the premier individual award out there.

Anonymous voting with a flawed voting system is always going to end in disaster.

The Dally M award is farcical. Nicho Hynes won't be up there for long.

He's only there on past performance. I don't think he's exactly set the world on fire this year and he was bloody ordinary in his last match.
1985: 1 try vs Parramatta, 1 try vs Manly, 1 try vs Wests, 2 tries vs Souffs
1986: 2 tries vs Illawarra, 1 try vs Balmain, 2 tries vs Norths.

Dally M a little bit like Supercoach points. Can be deceptive.

Hynes has been bog average in the first 3 rounds. It's heavily skewed towards halves.

Hynes got 6 points when the Sharks beat the Warriors in round 1 and he wasn't even the best halfback on the field let alone player. SJ outclassed him. The system is definitely flawed but some of these so called experts don't have a clue.

They should invest in a computer programme that can determine who the best players are. They record a stack of individual and team stats now, so why not use them to determine who the best players are in any given match?

Having humans judge such things will always be flawed, as humans by nature have their own prejudices and biases.

Machines will make worse decisions based on "stats" and not having an eye for the game. If they want a proper measurement, have 2 good judges watch each game in full after the event (not live), and lodge points then. Not Ruan Sims or Nigel Vagana though.

Can’t argue with that. Actually like the idea

No. You may as well just use Supercoach points with that lens.

Stats alone don't measure how an individual player makes those around him look good, or how they nullify the strengths of the opposition. I usually give a 3-2-1 just of our team after games and they aren't always the leaders on the stats sheet. The eye don't lie.

It plays to be the only superstar player in a crap team.
