mate, if you think billy Smith is the answer...your asking the wrong question.
I try to watch games objectively and at no point did i think the chooks were dominant, i did see some frantic , catch up football from but little in the way of a clear effective game plan to combat penrith.
I see little change in the result if billy smith or sandon play. Spencer may have more energy and meterage, but I doubt a circuit breaker.
we were absolutely owned , at home by a team lacking the world's best player, and possibly best prop.
there is no alternate reality where we win that playing as we did.
more frustrating than Penrith apparently had half their team out - nothing that we havnt suffered for the last few years and still had 4 of our top 17 out but we’re apparently at full strength
Suaali defence reads are not first grade standard which let in multiple tries down his edge
his defence is horrible
and had a couple of chances with toops out wide but didn’t pass the ball, yes i do think Billy would have done more in those situations / Suaali can’t fend or seem to break a tackle
it’s up to robbo to find a way, storm got them in round 1. And parra have an edge over them even though we can beat parra
We made errors at critical moments near our line or near theirs which really hurt us
toops has a couple, Whyte, Egan, sitili and Terrell may at crucial times
and we neally did win the way we did - if Manu try wasn’t disallowed - it’s an 80 min game and plenty of games get won on the last few minutesLast edited by Chook2; 03-29-2024, 08:05 AM.

Agree substantially with what you said but what are the reasons. Sitting in the stadium it's really easy to see Penriths defence jump and move as soon as we get up and start to play the ball. Result is we make v little yardage each set. Penrith roll the dice they won't get penalised everytime and they don't. Same happened against Manly. On the other hand in defence we wait that 1/2 second in moving and the yardage Penrith made is substantial. With our low yardage walker and keary's kicks become way more important and with less distance we are on the back foot. Then the flow on is the errors , perhaps trying to do too much on too many plays as the yardage is stifled by the defence. Then 6 agains kill us. Give a good side like Penrith multiple 6 agains and sadly a side will crack. Finally Suallili still isn't a centre , poor reads, poor passing and isn't beating anyone ..but tries hard...and Trent left Jared off for 30 minutes, our go to enforcer....comes on 10 to go and the team lifted ....
also thought Gus should have come on earlier then 55 min
the fact we got 4 plays in the riff 20 in the first half and scored twice it should have shows our attack was okay
only promising part you could say is we got outplayed across the park completely and lost by 6
collims and Leniu would make a bigger difference to our go forward then Egan butch
the riff showed their next man up mentality just doing their job
the riff owned us in the forwards and backs yardage and kicking game
we failed to use our height advantage out wide - even they scored off a cross field kick

RL round four: Bunker robbed Roosters via incorrect obstruction call on Manu try
It is of no help now to Roosters fans still seething over a controversial bunker call in the loss to the Panthers, but NRL head of Football Graham Annesley has admitted his team made an error.Graham Annesley has conceded a controversial obstruction call that cost Roosters star Joey Manu a fair try against the Panthers was wrong.
The NRL head of football has wasted no time conceding that video referee Chris Butler failed to use the necessary level of discretion in incorrectly deeming that Panthers fullback Dylan Edwards was obstructed from defending the no-try due to a collision with Roosters decoy runner Jared Waerea-Hargreaves.
The alleged obstruction from Waerea-Hargreaves on Edwards occurred 20-metres away from where Manu grounded the football.
The no-try call happened in the 22nd minute with the Roosters trailing 12-0 nil.
Instead of waiting until Tuesday’s media briefing to respond to the howler, Annesley stepped forward on Friday morningAnnesley moved to differentiate the call between last weekend’s polarising decision to pull back a Manly try due to Jake Trbojevic running an obstruction against Parramatta’s Luca Moretti.
“Last week I supported two obstruction rulings by the Bunker,’’ Annesley said.
“I talked about the need for the lead runner to continue through the defensive line, and for the play not to be turned back through the gap created by a collision with a defender.
“Neither of these factors were present in last night’s decision (for the Manu no-try).
“In the circumstances, the Bunker does have discretion to consider whether a defender could have prevented the try.
“In my opinion, the try would have been scored regardless and the on-field decision should not have been overturned”.
The Daily Telegraph understands Annesley was comfortable with Butler’s decision to award Sunia Turuva a try for the Panthers even though Liam Martin ran through as the lead runner and interfered with Sitili Tupouniua and Luke Keary as they came across in cover defence.

Simple.
Not much we can do with Billy Smith out for some time.Born and bred in the eastern suburbs.

Put Suaalii on the wing and tell him to stay there and guard the sideline, that no one is to get past him.
Tell him to bash, smash, and trash anyone who tries to (legally of course).
Or others teams, emboldened by what the Panthers did, will be scoring tries at will down our left wing and beating us.

Suaalii reminds me of Blake Ferguson, terrible centre but amazing winger.
Will never happen but I would drop Suaalii and play Pauga, or Jennings who can defend within a system.
people get hyped on players but look at the Penrith team, not all superstars but they know there role
it’s also a bit on Robbo, he saw what Suaalii could do last year in the centres, he changed it last year and moved him to the wing where he killed. Sure Billy Smith went down but Robbo should have played a specialist centre in that position and made the hard call on the so called “superstar” Suaalii
