  • Cheer up...

So we lost to Pemriff (without Cleary sure but as I keep saying... we didn't have the world's best prop or Leniu). Despite this we finished strong and only ended up losing by a wrongfully disallowed Manu try (which arguably woulda shifted momentum, leading to scores being 12-12 at 1/2 time rather than us looking a bit desperate at 1/2 time).

This doesn't mean any of the following:

    - We are poorly coached (our coaching has improved this year if anything, with Holbrook improving our attack).

    - The season's over in round 4.

    - There's a massive gap between us and Penrith that will be impossible to bridge.

    - Penrith is the only team in the comp with a 'next man up' culture and all others lack the concept of a top-30 squad. Whyte, Egan Butcher and Angus Crichton were completely incompetent when asked to replace Collins and Leniu :P

    - Western democracies have disintegrated to a point where we are all blind sheep who follow Rupert Murdoch's bidding. Our only way forward in life is to sell our worldly belongings and move to Russia/China/Saudi Arabia/North Korea because they offer more political/social freedom and a better standard of living.

    ---

We had a crack and did much better than we have for some time against the Riff (despite coming off a high from JWH's 300th where we played outta our skins for each other and completely schooled Souffs).

We're sitting in 6th place. Next week's the Doggies (we're yet to play a garbage team this season?) then we've got the Knights, Storm, Dragons and Broncos. Teams like the Titans and Dolphins (who are somehow currently first place!!! Yes that's how early in the season it is) are yet to come.

The season's looking good. We had a solid tune-up (a draw but for a wrongly disallowed try) against a Penrith squad with less outs than us. So long as we continue to build on our current form, it's gonna be a good year!!

My major concern is that we dont seem interested sometimes. Too many sit back and hope Manu or Ted deliver the game breaker move.

We need a couple of dirty / mongrel players rather than flashy players.

It’s not the end of the season but we are still making the same non forced errors that we always make, Same ineffective kicking game and same offenders with poor defensive choices.
Our game is tailor made for the Panthers.

        Agree. Especially in our backrow.
Not grubby but more the Tyson Frizell, Jayden Sua, Hudson Young rough and in your face annoying type.

We once had the likes of O Donnell, Crocker and Cordner who opposition players feared and respected.

With all due respect, our current crop Butcher, Angus, Wong and co are skilful, decent first graders but lack the mongrel and aggression that's sometimes required.

This is very true. We don't lack talent/skill, but we need that guy to help JWH set the tone and go after a pack. Maybe Leinu when he is back?

Rads has dialled it right back in terms of aggression which was needed to keep him on the field and I also think he is in career best form so we don't need him to change.

Ideally Crichton, Sitili, Wong and Butcher just up their intensity so we can match it with all the forward packs.

People bag Keary alot but both losses this season has come on the back of our forward pack getting rolled. Its hard for a little man to play well when his yardage guys are dominated. We need to improve our line speed and not concede so many easy metres.

I think you'll find it was penrith missing the world's best prop ism not the roosters.

sorry, I rate jfh higher then collins , I put him right up there with hass.

as mickie says you need grubs, congress, bullies, to win comps , jfh is all that and then some , reminds me of prime jwh .

It's been like that for some time and it backfired last season. To win a comp you need to all be on the same page and do what ever it takes to achieve it. That desire for those that are contemplating retirement may not be there. Class alone doesn't win premierships!

The Roosters are a slow burn. We build efficiency and effectiveness incrementally and storm home in the back end of the second round. Robbo's fine tuning has been a little off in the last two years but last year was close. He just needs to adjust the "come good" period to a couple of games earlier.

The best is yet to come, most of the season will be uneven with the usual losses to the Warriors, Storm, Sharkies, Cowboys and St. George but that will be all just grist for the mill. we will be there at 5 and will go one better than 2023.

Crickey. How many thousands of posts have been written complaining about our dirty mongrels getting suspended too often? Now apparently we need more of em???

Kelby it’s been our problem for years. We are a powerhouse club with plenty of great players. I think some of them think we just need to turn up, put on the jersey and we’ll win. Complacency has been our achilles' heel for years. I think it’s the coaches job to sort this out. We have seen that any team can beat any team in this competition if you don’t show up with the right attitude. Manly are a good example this weekend.

Exactly. A lot of BS has been written about this game and what it means.
