Mate he was one of the best allround players in the last 20 years.

Great player!! Defence POOR. He had the best defensive backrowers in the world always protecting him - from Tonie Carroll to Sam Thaiday at all levels. Not to mention pretty handy centres.

Agree, but Maloneys defence is by no means the worst and what he lacks in technique and size to be a defensive 5/8 he makes up in guts and smarts.

But at least with fresher attack we'll score more points Anasta offers nothing and is a burden to the team on top of that he was a candidate for origin so he'll be great with Pearce . Next year we'll have the best halves combination in the game!!!
On top of that good forwards, good centres good bench, hooker but we still need decent wingers hopefully Leilua turns into. solid winger. Havent had one for a while. Thats our weak point but hopefully when Maloney arrives ourwings will freshen up!

maloney is not perfect but with our great forwards he will do well. he is a marked improvement on the cap burglar.

We had the best attacking 5/8 in Freddy and then the later part of his career was a great defender that had a lot of sting in tackles...the complete footballer

He's been left grabbing air a few times I've seen. Plants his feet early but gets pushed off. He's willing, I think it's more a technique thing.

To be honest how many 5/8's could you say don't have defensive deficiencies

Travis Burns, sensational in defence.
Kieran Foran, sensational in defence.
Benji is a lot better defender than what he was, so is Thurston.
Not to many run through Gareth Widdop.
Anasta is a good defender, he doesnt hurt in defence but doesn't miss to many.

The thing is - Burns is also crap in attack, compared to Maloney.
JT/Benji have improved, but they are still crap.
Let's just not talk about Anasta..
Foran is the only one there that isn't a turnstyle-esque and offers something in attack.
