Considering the number of players leaving st the end of this year, we definitely need to go on a recruitment drive . Galvin would be handy to cover for Keary’s retirement at end of ‘25( presumably). We will have Sandon and Sam in the halves , but a back up is always needed.
why can’t we go for Burton for ‘26?

IMO we need to stop thinking we should go after every player and thinking they are the answer or silver bullet to our poor form ( I include Fifta and Lomax)

I know it’s exciting to get a new player but first we need to develop a game style and attitude to compete for 80mins to have any chance come finals against the top teams

We can have all the best players on paper but if we can’t do the basics week in week what’s the point.

Melbourne are great example, apart from their stars in the spine and NAS you would say the rest of the team is decent . BUT they compete, have a style of play that is EFFECTIVE which means not every player needs to be a superstar

      Sorry for being negative

Same Melbourne Storm who poached Ryan Papenhuyzen as an 18yo from the Tigers, a 22yo Reimis Smith from the Bulldogs, a 20yo Xavier Coates from the Brocnos, a 22yo Eloisa Katoa from the Warriors and and 18yo Jonah Pezet from Newcastle…

And that’s just players off the top of my head in their current squad.

No club does talent identification like the Melbourne Storm, sure they get sheltered in Melbourne and are out of the news cycle more than Sydney players but make no mistake about it buying the most talented young players and harvesting talent from South East Queensland has been critical to Melbourne’s long term success. More than any structure or philosophy about how to play the game.

Both those footballers you mention have talent but are part time performers . Dont trust signing them.
Best to spend some on good young talent then billions on two flops.
          Im for Freddy MKII

Will Galvin be a starter for the tigers next year with luai coming, Or will they drop him into the halfback role? Unless you can guarantee this kid a starting spot, I think he’ll stay put.

Not just from QLD either. My best mate at work, his boy plays in the halves for Norths SG Ball (granted they are abysmal) Storm have got him playing with Hills Bulls for the rest of the season and also Storms Flegg team when they're in town. They will then move him down there at the end of the year and pay for his Uni degree whilst he trains with them. They do things well

We seem to have plenty of promising young halves on the pathway, so look down before you look sideways.

Will any grow into an Adult Male size and be able to kick the ball out of our half?

SG Ball have got the week off next week but then they play their prelim final and hopefully grand final over the next 2 weeks, if you get a chance watch Toby Rodwell, he’s a serious talent.

                        Will do.

I know a few boys who work for Pacific Sports Management and they rave about him. I haven't seen him play as yet as I only mainly watch Norths Ball team play when work commitments allow

Bad set up for the 6 team finals - 1 should play 2 in week 2 with the Winner through to the GF and losers plays the preliminary Final. Also not good if you have a bye the last round as 2 of the Roosters teams did - even worse if you were top 2.

Friendly has the experience with the week off from his NRL days so SG Ball should be in good shape for week 2 of the Finals where they will play the winner of the Dogs and Eels game.

The whole Melbourne team is virtually Poached in a way or from wild cup however they very rarely spend but on an established star they usually bring someone up and make them into a superstar alar grant, Munster, paps and Hughes who all came down on min wage and got turned into superstars
the storm loose players especially forward and backs when they get offered more but keep the main spine consistent and pay them well
they very rarely spend $500k to $1m on a player - someone usually comes up and plays well to earn a contract upgrade or leaves for more money
the riff are learning this now loosing 2-3 players a year but there is a good mould of players who stay and the others come into fill the roles

obviously you DON’T have a crystal ball but with Sandon Smith and Walker being so young will there be a path through to first grade for Rodwell and what timeframe?

NSW cup next season or two soon ?
