  • Matty Johns Podcast - featuring Pearce & Cronk

    If you’ve got Kayo and a spare 30minutes I would highly recommend.

    I’m almost scared to watch it for Junior’s sake. After a decade of service they replaced him with a better half and won two premierships. There’s no sugar coating that. Poor guy.

        A great watch - I thought Pearce spoke clearly and was quite articulate.

          You can tell he’s off the piss. Sounds like he’s picked up about 50 iq points. Good on him.

            Cooper Cronk & Mitchell Pearce in the same room is interesting in itself but;

            - Pearce spoke about his battle with alcohol, used it as a vice to cover his social anxiety. Spoke about the inconsistency it drove in his personal life and footballing career.
            - Pearce said and I quote “I got replaced by a much better halfback and a winner and I can admit that” - said he struggled to to come to terms with it initially but in hindsight he can see it clearly. Said when he went to present JWH’s jersey for his 300th he saw all the players names up on a board including his own with trophies next to their name to represent premierships and he wondered had he stayed if there might be a few more next to his name.
            - Pearce spoke about the difference between Super League and NRL, good discussion around why it’s a good development ground for halves who maybe are struggling with the pressures of NRL.
            - Cooper spoke about struggling to fit in initially at the Roosters, the pressure of taking over from someone like Pearce who had been at the club for so long and had so many friendships, spoke about having to change his style of play and the slow 4-4 start to the season.

              Good watch. Funny to see Matty try and stir both of them up lol

              Happy to see Pearce more settled now and thankfully he's glad to stay retired (rumors about joining Parra were squashed)

                    I like to pretend that Mitchell Pearce never happened.

                        Cheers for the synopsis

                        Did Pearce mention anything about how he’d wished someone had taught him how to kick a torpedo bomb?

                            Thanks R6. Very interesting. It’s great to see Mitch has matured and can now feel comfortable enough in his own skin to talk about these sort of things like his previous alcohol issues and the Cronk situation. He will always be a Rooster.

                              Pearce couldve and shouldve been out best halfback ever..he had all tools to be so.He had his vices and it wasn't just the drink. In the end he healed himself..a bit late for his footballing career..still he was a loyal rooster and won a comp.
