There's something satisfying about a thread titled: Our Wingers going forward.

It's better than going backwards I suppose!
1985: 1 try vs Parramatta, 1 try vs Manly, 1 try vs Wests, 2 tries vs Souffs
1986: 2 tries vs Illawarra, 1 try vs Balmain, 2 tries vs Norths.

The Dominator (Dom Young) 45 tries and 55 NRL games is pretty good in anyone's book especially when he only started playing league as a 16 year old - Not such a liability in D as some suggest taking into account Joseph Manu and Sam Walker are regulars in the top 50 missed tackles and both defend on that right side.

Interesting stats as far as D goes across the main squad so far this season after 6 rounds

        Right side D - 44
        • Nat Butcher ( 95% tackle efficiency -10 Missed Tackles) - 5 games
        • Walker ( 84% tackle efficiency -14 missed tackles) - 5 games
        • Manu (81% tackle efficiency - 17 missed tackles) - 6 games
        • Young ( 83% tackle efficiency - 3 missed tackles) - 4 games

        Left side D - 37
        • Crichton ( 88% tackle efficiency - 12 missed tackles) - 4 games
        • Keary (89% tackle efficiency - 13 missed tackles) - 5 games
        • Suaalii ( 89% tackle efficiency - 7 missed tackles) - 6 games
        • Toops (80 % tackle efficiency - 5 missed tackles) - 6 games

Other Main Squad Members - 2 or more games
        • Radley ( 91% tackle efficiency - 22 missed tackles) - 6 games
        • Brandon Smith ( 92% tackle efficiency - 15 missed tackles) - 6 games
        • JWH ( 94% tackle efficiency - 7 missed tackles) - 5 games
        • Collins (90% tackle efficiency - 14 missed tackles ) - 5 games
        • May ( 98% tackles efficiency - 3 missed tackles ) - 6 games
        • Whyte ( 94% tackle efficiency - 5 missed tackles ) - 6 games
        • Sandon Smith ( 90% tackle efficiency - 8 missed tackles) - 3 games
        • Watson ( 93% tackle efficiency - 7 missed tackles ) - 4 games
        • Egan Butcher ( 93% tackle efficiency - 4 missed tackles ) - 2 games
        • Jennings ( 87% tackle efficiency - 5 missed tackles ) - 2 games
        • Tedesco ( 81% tackle efficiency - 6 missed tackles ) - 5 games

A few are a bit harsh on the Dominator when you look at what he can bring to the table in offence - Certainly they need to work at bringing the right side more into the game in offence and tidy up the D and reads in D on both the Left and Right sides as well as the ruck and middle.

I’m still a fan of Dom Young but reckon a week or 2 in reserve grade might sharpen up his attitude

Young can learn his trade in NSW cup, just too many errors, no hard runs off our line.
How long until Smith comes back, really need him at Centre, we get him back and Spencer to strengthen our middle and watch out.
Spot On Surely Tupou gets at least another season he is still up there with best wingers going and terrific to watch as his runs back are as good as anyone’s around Sualli is better suited to Wing and Spencer was unfortunate to be done for 8 weeks because those whinging Drongos called him out Billy will only help the team if he ever is fit What ever happened to Robert Toia he showed heaps of potential

The issue with missed tackles stats is it doesn’t account for decisions in the line that impact your inside/ outside men. It’s often someone in the defensive chain has made a bad read that makes others react.

As for Dom Young specifically, both his reads and efforts in contact have been poor at times. His carries have been ordinary too. I doubt he gets his jersey back without some time in reserves but the upside is he does have a few weeks to get it right in practice.

I’d be astounded if he doesn’t get a spell in the reggies. But it may take too much of a hit to Robbo’s ego showing he made a poor recruitment decision.

Joseph S is leaving anyway so the risk of him kicking up a stink like Zac Lomax to play centre for the money is a non-issue. Our best backline when at full strength is: 1 Tedesco 2 Tupou 3 Billy Smith 4 Manu 5 Sua'ali'i. That is a premiership winning backline if we can get it on the field and in their right positions.

Joseph Sua'ali'i is a modern day Israel Folau in the air with a powerful running game so why would you waste it at centre? Not only is he elite with attacking kicks but he is great when defending kicks as well it's a big problem wasting him at centre. Instead of getting a bum like Dominic Young we should have gotten a centre and a genuine centre not Zac Lomax.
I agree on your assessment, a little harsh on Dom Young, think he'll win more than lose games for us.

As far as Doms lack of defensive awareness and skill at tackling, Robbo needs to put a strong defender next to him to help cover.. Who that could be I have no idea..
We have too many defensive liabilities in the squad at present.

Robert Toia is recovering from his second ACL (other knee) sustained at training in the lead-up to the Semi-Final vs Melbourne Storm in 2023. There is no update on a likely return date.

IMO the Doggies game was just shyte.

Also if his careless tackle was an inch lower... Taff woulda been knocked out by Young's fabulous pecks (the biggest legal weapons in the comp - Doggies shoulda been charged with sexual assault for having a feel & tearing his shirt open after the tackle) and it woulda swung momentum in our favour.

Side note - Doggies almost Beat the Storm! I just don't think our game against them (in the worst weather we'll play in for the next decade) say anything about anybody really. Including the Doggies!

It's a shyte scenario but Young isn't a shyte player. He completely monstered Souffs. Re broader statements about our recent receuitment of outside backs, we have farking Tedesco, Manu and Tupou!!! IMO it's pretty hard to recruit guns who wanna take a pay cut to play with them. However we did it... we kept Smith, signed Young, signed Sua'ali'i, signed that guy from yawnion, brought back Jenko and got Pauga up to NRL standard.

I dunno! Our form s*x but something Big Willie said rang a bell with me. We have two #7s... they SHOULD click but they sorta sum up our whole team. Maybe we have too much talent across the park and not enough honest toilers?

                            Back 3 will be:

                            Teddy
                            Marky Mark

Too harsh on Young. You don't buy him for his defensive ability. He is a match winner. Half the comp wanted him. JS is gone at the end of the year and Billy Smith will probably manage 5 games this year.
