I have a question I was hoping someone could explain to my simpleton brain.

Non Roosters related but is just some rule clarification that no doubt will affect us during the year. Graham Annesley has come out and said in the Canberra vs Titans game that the player who charged down Forans field goal was offside, although this is not a penalty?? I mean what? It's 6 again apparently which is the exact same outcome after you charge it down.

So my question is, why on earth would you stay onside if your not being penalised? The only downside i can see is that your team wouldnt be able to collect the charge down but that's only if the ref actually notices you offside.

Please tell me I've misunderstood something. Imo the Titans should've been awarded a penalty and therefore won the game. I couldnt care less about either of thrse teams but if it happened to us I'd be absolutely livid.

I think what you may have misunderstood is that the bunker cannot call it a penalty or six again, because being offside isn’t a penalty, but a 6 again. the ref and/or the touchies should have called it a 6again, but missed it all together.

So, the only way a penalty could of come from that situation, is not from being offside, but from dropping the ball and not taking the advantage after the 6 again.

They make it up as they go. They have no idea themselves, so us fans have no chance.

If Easts did it, the ref would say they were 'cynically' offside and penalise them.

1985: 1 try vs Parramatta, 1 try vs Manly, 1 try vs Wests, 2 tries vs Souffs
1986: 2 tries vs Illawarra, 1 try vs Balmain, 2 tries vs Norths.

I think for field goals an exception has to be made. They should be able to penalise it with the bunkers help. 6 again is a piss weak punishment for being offside in game defining play. Teams will take advantage of this.

Jeez we come up with some wildly silly rules.
