Serious question, what is different from previous years ?

Didn't the coaches say they're going to play differently and evolve this year ?

For me, the only obvious difference is Radley. He seems to be running a lot more and has been outstanding, clearly our best

Our style looks less recognisable than it ever has - which is insane - considering our style has been confusing for the past few years. We genuinely have zero set plays and I’m not even sure what is practiced in training. Do they sit there in a circle while Cooper Cronk talks about his 2019 heroics?

Even a side like the Dragons have an identity - which is miles better than ours - and they’ve conjured that up in 7 weeks with Flanno where Robinson has had about 6 years to tinker - since our last GF appearance. I think this team has not hit rock bottom yet - and it will happen sooner than most think - we are in serious trouble.

I haven't noticed a single change to former years - i fully expect us to have to win 8 straight to make the finals again

Current Roosters style is to compete and then blow the opposition away when we have momentum with our high risk expansive footy and class. How's this working for us? Check the NRL ladder.

From what I have see our attack seems to be more centralised this year, certainly up until we hit the oppositions 30m line then we start to play much more expansive. I think this was on display best when we played the Knights.

You can see this especially in the way that Radley has been playing individually and then in the way we are using our second rowers in yardage to run unders lines back into the ruck rather than overs lines to promote width of play.

I think there are examples where we have moved away from the game plan though like our second half against the Storm were we became guilty of playing too much sideways footy and not direct enough and then you also have to factor in that our 1/6/7 have only played together as as unit a few times so they haven’t had much time to work on implementing and adjusting the style of player to what was desired and what is actually going to work.

The issue is whether Sam Walker can play his part in offence and ignite the right side and not leave it all up to Luke Keary and James Tedesco, who will obviously be marked players by multiple defenders if they are the only options for creating any opportunities in offence, as we have seen in games vs. Penrith and Storm.

Sure, Walker wasn't playing against Storm, but he played against Penrith; 16 running metres all game; not good enough; nor is 1 try assist so far this season.

Certainly a clear agenda against Sam Walker here and in many of this posters recent messages. How ironic considering it was this poster who last year vehemently espoused full support of the coach and all members of the playing squad (especially Hutch). I well remember the “fickle fans” accusations that were replayed all year like a broken record. Talk about a fickle fan!

Yep, panic when we can’t score easy points, throw stupid passes, drop the ball, obstruct defenders, then run sideways, cramp our centres/wingers, then run in ever decreasing circles. Hang on, that sounds just like last years’ style.

I'm beginning to wonder if Robbo is deliberately restraining the team and trying to minimise fatigue or long term injuries in the back part of the season - but it's a high risk strategy (more hope than anything). We're starting to see other clubs suffer a few lengthy injuries to star players and this is having an impact on their on-field performances.

Moses has a broken foot, Fa'asuamaleaui has been ruled out for the season with an ACL injury and Nathan Cleary has hamstring issues. Ponga has a serious foot injury that needs surgery and Fogarty might need surgery on his bicep. Jayden Campbell has knee problems while Reynolds is becoming more and more prone to injury.

The Cowboys, Warriors, Raiders, Dolphins, Souffs and Bulldogs have long injury lists while Penrith and Melbourne (as usual) are cruising with relatively few and minor injuries.

The Roosters' 'missing' list isn't that bad by comparison, though Billy Smith's return is still considered "indefinite".

I thought today was another really good example of this, we played a lot of our footy through the middle and were really dictated by Sammy Walker & Keary when we wanted to play with witdth but we stayed on task for the full 80, would’ve been really easy to start giving the ball some air and trying to play around them after half time but I liked the maturity of the performance today.

Very noticeable that Teddy has been removed from first receiver plays and is playing more in shape and almost exclusively a support role around the middle third of the field.

As long as Walker is playing I think we'll be more consistent.

I listen intently when Robbo is questioned about a change in style for us this season. He never gives much specific but one thing he has mentioned is having our halves play together more rather than just stick to their left/right sides. They did this a little today, and also did a complete switch of sides for a set or two. I guess it puts a bit of uncertainty defending against as it mixes up your targets.
