ROOSTERS SQUAD v ST GEORGE ILLAWARRA

    Round 8 - 4:05PM, Thursday 25th April
    Allianz Stadium, Sydney

Arguably the biggest clash of the regular season, the Roosters v Dragons ANZAC Day clash is always an emotion charged, rugged affair. I love these games. I love the tradition, I love the atmosphere, I love the big moments ... who could forget Freddy's magnificent individual try in the 2004 game? Brilliant stuff. Our overall record however is not great in these games (9-12), but we have won 4 of the last 6. We're as consistent as a Melbourne weather forecast, swinging between moments of brilliance and bumbling mediocrity faster than you can say "Roosters Footy." The Dragons have been inconsistent too, but have managed to put together a couple of decent performances in the last 2 weeks.

We're getting desperate and need this big, emotive, occasion ... we badly need something to light a fire underneath our under performing team and lift them to the dizzy heights of their (purported) potential (poo-tential?). This game does mean a lot to the players, especially Jaz who ALWAYS lifts for this game. Hopefully a little fire and brimstone from the forwards can set the tone for a dominant win. That's what I know as "Roosters Footy" ... go through the middle. Win the arm wrestle and earn the right to play more expansively later in the game and in good field position.

This is a must-win game for mine. We simply cannot afford another loss and to slip further behind on the ladder. We need to find form and find it now. Following this week we have the Bronco's (A), Warriors (H), Sharks (A) & the Raiders (A). Not an easy run. If we keep playing like we have been, our season could be over before the bye in round 14. God help us if that happens .... the meltdown on here will be biblical.

Walker and Dom Young are back, but let's not get too excited. The last time they played we managed to put together worst 40 minutes of our season to date, so thier inclusion is no silver bullet. It does however give some more room to Kez. No disrespect to Watson, but he didn't really present as a viable attacking or kicking option last week, which made Keary's job much more difficult and allowed the Storm to read the play with relative ease. I much prefer having Watson at 14 and playing as a running lock or using his speed out of dummy half to create a point of difference. Nice to see Xavier Va'a named on the extended bench. No Sitili anywhere?

Left center is still an issue. Get well soon Billy, we need you fit and firing.

Roosters by ..... a minor miracle.

    GO EASTS !!

We just have to win this game!! I don't want to watch that smug mutt Kyle Flanagan parading around at full time like a prize turkey. Robbo should replay both of last years Dragons games to remind the boys of what happens when you switch off and don't play for the full 80mins. ANZAC 2023 day we were cruising and then sloan (the fullback with no shoulders) tore us apart and nearly won the game for them. Then the second game we bravely came back from a decent deficit and were in front going into the last set of the game, only for Ben Hunt to put up a bullsh1t kick and Jaxson Paulo doing his best impression of the tin man from Wizard of Oz to fluke a win and beat us by 2. Fingers crossed Robbo makes a last minute change and brings Wong in for Egan Butcher.

Hard to be confident - at the moment we have so many deficiencies in our game. Anyway, fingers crossed.

            GO ROOSTERS.

Not confident this week, which is surprising when looking at both teams..

Ben Hunt always tears us apart, hope they have a good plan to nullify his impact..

Flanagan v Robinson, what could go wrong lol

Great side on paper. Like most weeks.

                Still no Sitili.

Hopefully a Rooster’s win, not confident on it happening though as we are so inconsistent this year. St George will try to run through the edges so hope Young and Suaalii (back at centre jeez) are up to the task.

Sitili not named in Reggies either. Presumably still having concussion symptoms.

I'd bring Wong in for EButch. Nat must be skating on thin ice too, off the pace at the moment.

We can't lose wearing the best strip in the game on Thursday though. Bluetiful.

                          Getting less impressed each week
sandon smith must need longer and Billy smith now saying indefinite so who knows
sitili is a worry as well looks like spending another week on the sideline
                          - hard as Billy smith is still injured but again concerned with suaali at centre ( playing left centre his hurting his game he is not up to it )
                          - Keary needs a big game and I hope robbo has had a word to him if he wants to be the ball runner he needs to get confident and take the line on again otherwise be an organiser so walker can play his natural game
                          - Teddy needs to not overplay his hand
                          - Nat butch needs to stand up this week as he is a liability atm
                          - Wong should be there over Egan but again robbo can’t seem to see this
3 from 8 would be very bad so this is getting desperate
who knows what dragons side will turn up but they generally play to disrupt and have a big forward pack and backline

Wong's going through Robbo's lesson of being ditched indefinitely (or until Butcher, Dockar-Clay and anybody else who's available get's injured). Didn't you know that?
