Not sure how we’re going to win another or even get close if he can’t match a few other blokes who aren’t going anywhere anytime soon

If I post about that point mostly it is because it is the most critical factor to the club’s success presently
I agree with you that we must find a way to beat the Storm and Penrith.

How do you get a group of young men up for it again after a Premiership especially when they are mostly mercenaries? Penrith, on the other hand, are most of them locals with pride in their district, the colours and the way that they perform. There is also the the fact that they are hero worshiped locally. It is the only side that you could say that about.

We do need a contributor like Les, his stridency promotes discussion/abuse certainly but he has that passion for success, misguided though it may be. Probably a younger fellow.
for mine he's a bit 2 dimensional. i'm waiting to hear about him growing up in texas - the barbecues, friday night football, who knows what else

This will be a good test this week to see how we are going unfortunately over the last 5 years against the top sides we haven’t aimed up - hope this game changes that

Bronx were my tip to win the comp this year, and we dominated them in Round 1. They will be tougher on Friday obviously with a number of decent cattle returning.

The missing link is Cronk. He brought respect and belief. Robbo will motivate and elevate the side again though a Premiership is probably unlikely. A little patience please everyone, we're coming good.

..........you make an interesting point about Penrith but that doesnt hold true with Melbourne in fact it is the exact opposite there..........

I disagree. Melbourne is an interesting case. Players are essentially isolated and unrecognised which promotes a solid bonding among them. They would spend a lot of time together which shows in the way that they clearly play for each other.

In WW1 Australian divisions really did become an effective fighting force and historians speculate that because they received no home leave, in their isolation a tight communal bond formed among them which was quite different to the norm. I see a similar situation with Melbourne's Esprit de Corps.

Simple fact is we have gone backwards since 2019 … every single year … while the squad has remained one of the best … I do consider it the best these last 2-3 years but there is no point splitting hairs about that when we can’t even get close …. therein lies the source of the criticism of the coach

Some teams just run harder … hit harder … and are better drilled/more disciplined than us … and this has been going on for some time

It is not just tiresome … losing 19 out of 20 games to Melbourne and Penrith … it is wasted opportunity … and we are about to lose a load of talent in the next 1-2 years

And no I’ve seen too many seasons I’d prefer to forget … my expectations are perfectly aligned with the club’s … Roosters played in 5 GFs in the 13 seasons before Robbo arrived … and we have been considered one of the most elite clubs for nigh on 30 years

Injuries takes it's toll and as I said on a previous post the Roosters had the least number of players that played 20 or more games during the 2023 season of all the finals contenders - You can cover players missing the odd game here and there but it's more difficult covering for players who miss multiple weeks including suspensions

The Roosters are down to their last outside back from the top 30 squad in Pauga - Toops missing for a few weeks and Jennings for a few months the same as Billy Smith

Hard to keep saying it's the best squad when players are unavailable.

As far as squads go one would also say that Penrith , Brisbane and Storm have more than handy squads and argubly better squads in 2024 - Sharks and Manly too for an example have more than handy squads in 2024.

They bang on about the spine being vital for how a team performs

Storm have the best so called spine in Papenhuyzen , Munster , Hughes and Grant of all teams in 2024.

Of all the teams Parramatta have the best record vs Penrith and Storm since 2020.

vs Penrith - 5 wins and 7 losses
vs Storm - 5 wins and 3 losses

It hasn't produced a premiership though

The Roosters are 5 wins and 2 losses vs Parramatta during the same period.

I did hear during the Storm vs Souths game that Souths have never beaten Storm in Melbourne - 19 zip now. - Storm 33 wins and 7 losses vs Souths - Roosters are 19 wins - 30 losses - Brisbane 14 wins and 41 losses and 1 draw

                        2020 to 2024

Brisbane - 1 win and 7 losses vs Penrith
Brisbane - 1 win and 8 losses vs Storm

Roosters - 6 wins and 2 losses vs Brisbane during this period.

Great post Salvo. I expect Les to have a counter argument for it all however. It looks like the Broncos record against the big two isn’t much better than ours.

Appreciate the research Salvo ... good post

But why include Brisbane? they only came good last year ... yet funnily enough they still have a better record than us in those contests lol

Parra are the anomaly as I have said before ... I am sure they are an anomaly to their own fans

2021 is the only season where you could say we were seriously derailed by injury ... that was a good coaching performance

Other than that ... our best players have been consistently available ... there is no excuse ... all teams have to deal with injury

As for the spine ... we have a very good one to go with an excellent squad ... Melbourne may have the best spine but they have numerous holes elsewhere ... including a non-existent forward pack

Roosters are stacked ... possibly for the last time in quite awhile ... even a par for the course coach gets this team to the prelim this year ... I expect nothing less and hope for more
