Not only did they re-sign stalwart Anthony Minichiello, but young forwards Jared Warea-Hargreaves, Tinirau Arona and Aiden Guerra have also been locked up.

With James Maloney on his way and a host of boom kids like Tautau Moga rising through the Toyota Cup ranks, this team already shapes as a serious premiership threat in 2013.

    Im Geeeed GO U CHOOKISS!!!

If he wants a one year deal I say give it to him if we're so intent on signing him, when the time comes to re-sign our younger players we can just offload him or if there's still room in the cap sign him for another year until we need the cap space. This would be ideal for us and it seems ideal for the SBW camp.

These are the only circumstances under which I think SBW could turn out to be a good signing. A 4 year contract is not the go here...

In saying all that my preferable option is still to stick with what we've got.

So the interesting part is that the Chooks might be considering letting him earn his 1.2 million in Japan THEN play for the Roosters with very little prep.

If allowed to box AND play Japanese union (netting well over a million.)

        1) Would Williams then be willing to accept a lesser contract from the Roosters in exchange for this freedom?

        2) Would the NRL allow this? (i.e. Granted the guy's making well over the salary cap from outside deals unrelated to the club or NRL.)

        3) If this was allowed, would we want him basically playing as a hired gun who does his own training in the off season and is paid to jump on the field for half of each game simply to offer a bit of an x-factor rather than a full team effort?

TBH I'd be tempted to say yes to this kind of a deal... not that it's likely to be on the table. Just an interesting thought...

Let the guy earn his millions, then give him a bit more to hire his x-factor.

As stupid as it sounds letting him box and play in Japan might allow us to sign him for peanuts compared to what he would comand for an exclusive contract allowing us to keep everyone.

I have never met anyone before is so discipline and train very hard overtime like SBW. Yes everyone hate his guts and with all the package around him, but image SBW training with all the up and coming roosters team. They will all learn to push themselves hard on the training field and discipline with their eating if they all wanna learn off him, that is another positive side of him being in your team. Look what he done with the chief super 15 rugby team within 3 months. He is that special talented because he does train hard AND NOT DRINKING ANYMORE.

wtf to a 12 month deal. get him prepped to play to nrl standard of footy and the let him go to whom ever he chooses. what do we get but a stepping stone repayment from him. we are being bent over by him and his cronies, whilst being nipple crippled we wont see the onfield benefits from him til round 15 ish

I sorta like the idea of a 1 year deal because if he doesn't perform he can go back to Jap rugby full-time, and free up our cap INSTANTLY.

Pearce, Maloney, JWH, Friend, Kennedy, Moga, Leilua... our CORE TEAM are already locked in. We're not about to lose them by having a potentially GF winning SBW for 1 year. If he fails... we go to plan b instantly with no losses to our core team.

If he performs then we win a GF, or get close. He's like a Todd Carney who's fuelled by success/fame rather than alcohol!!! What can go wrong?!?

A one year deal, boxing and no off season?

                        Fuuck that.

If he comes, it must be on a two or more year deal, and he can box if he can make it work. If he comes to this club he has to be a league player first and foremost. That means he trains with the team, plays with the team and does exactly what all his teammates do without question.

I thought Nick and our club were better than jumping through hoops for one player.

Don't get me wrong, I want him here, but no player is bigger than this club.

I made this point (1 year deal) several months ago.
Codeine has been doing 1 year deals for his players for ages & SBW will be no different.
Imo these terms aren't in the clubs best interest, so, go to Japan Sonny. Big $ there.

sbw if he returns to nrl he will likely get smashed up and injured early in his nrl comeback.
he was injury prone when he was at the scum.
playing rugby suits him as i believe it isnt as demanding as the physical contact of nrl and on that basis it is good reason reason he go to japan rugby, he will be playing against midgets and least likely to get hurt.the jap public will love him and especially those beautiful japanese women.
