he was injury prone when he was at the scum.
playing rugby suits him as i believe it isnt as demanding as the physical contact of nrl and on that basis it is good reason reason he go to japan rugby, he will be playing against midgets and least likely to get hurt.the jap public will love him and especially those beautiful japanese women.
1) NOBODY watches rugby there (it's like being in America with regard to sports... ALL baseball and gridiron.) Still, with 130+ million people and some MASSIVELY wealthy companies (which Australia lacks outside mining), they can pull together a LOT more money. IMO our economy is a big thing holding back sports. If Australia had companies like Sony, Toyota...etc shipping billions of value added goods overseas, so many things would benefit IMO.
2) Japanese women HAAAAAAATE men with tats and men with big muscles. I showed a picture of him to my wife (Japanese) and a large group of her friends... they all said "eeeeeeew!!! He's too big and has tats... I think he's disgusting!!!" (It's a really conservative country, and tats are banned from public baths...etc.) He wouldn't be popular at all (the majority of girls are ULTRA ULTRA conservative... no really!!!)
3) When Japanese people love stuff they go craaaaaaaazy about it even if they know SFA about it. My guess is he'd be MASSIVE amongst the fanatics because they all love the All Blacks, and although Nonu is their main man, SBW has sold himself much better. And just the "I played for the All Blacks!!!" will be enough to pull the fanatics.
4) I agree and disagree on the injury side.
As a kid he had a few minor injuries, but he's a BIG man now! He used to be a bit skinny IMO.
Union vs League... yeah. You can't tackle high or use your shoulders in Union. I remember he was soft in defence. When first playing in France he got quite a few bans for shoulder charges and high tackles.
My guess is his tackling style has changed. Might be a liability as the union/league defensive tactics are VERY different. 1-on-1 He might be better, butmy concerns would be defending against intentional shoulder charges (which will suddenly become legal... OUCH! As a kid I always hated the switch to League for that reason.)
Also will he be used to League players who intentionally fall forward because strips are illegal and the tackle count matters?
Mmm I'd be worried about his defence.
