    ROOSTERS SQUAD v BRONCOS

    Round 9 - 8:00PM, Friday 3rd May
    Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane

As we now all know, Luke Keary announced his intention retire at the end of the 2024 season. Player number 1167 for the Roosters, Luke made his club debut in the opening round of the 2017 season. Kez plays his 150th game for the Roosters on Friday night. Add to that, JWH will become only the fourth player to appear in 300 games for the Roosters on Friday night, behind Luke Ricketson (301), Anthony Minichiello (302) and Mitchell Aubusson (306). Both Jaz & Kez absolute champions and Roosters legends, on and off the field ... they deserve to walk away as winners.

Now, I think maybe I should be pessimistic more often. After down-playing our chances last week, we played the house down on Anzac Day. Can we put together 2 games like that in a row? That's the million dollar question. If nothing else we've been consistently inconsistent, but we'll need to be on again against a Bronco's side that is going rather well. They have speed and power on both sides of the field, and a pack that can compete with the best. This is a stern test, especially up at the Cauldron. They'll be up for this one, especially after our Rnd 1 win and the events surrounding that encounter.

Toops is back, so with Jenko now out, Suaalii returns to center. Nat retains the right edge backrow after last weeks season-best showing. Rads is not named in the 17, but is on the extended bench. I assume that means he has until game day to prove his fitness. Watson stays at lock. Sandon Smith returns from injury, named on the extended bench, as is Tupouniua. Wong has been named in #14.

It's still a strong side, even though we don't have our best 17 on the park (for those not keeping count, that's now 4 years and 9 rounds, or 108 consecutive matches since we had our best 17 available). We can give this a real shake IF we bring last weeks attitude. Any less and we simply won't compete.

The bookies don't fancy our chances. Sportsbet has the Broncos at $1.51 and us as $2.55 outsiders.

I reckon this will be a cracker !!

If you look at our team on paper from 1-22,that’s a genuine gun side!

I must say Broncos bench looks a little weak,we are a good chance to get them this week!

Anyone got mail on how Billy Smith is progressing? All I see is indefinite and curious for more details.

Billy Smith is still undergoing strengthening rehab work on his ankle, and while close, has not yet returned to squad training. He is probably another 2 - 3 weeks away.

Waylander - where did you get these stats from? Just curious as I’ve been trying to get something similar for many moons.

Those are some mind blowing numbers but do bot surprise me. I cant remember the last time we fielded the same teams twice.

There was an article after our Round 4 game that said that we hadn't fielded our best team since the 2019 Grand Final. I then did the maths from looking at the draw for each year on NRL.com. The article was posted about on here by DP1990 at the time.

What's the bet he injures himself during rehab?

He'll probably fall off the massage table and shatter his pelvis.

If we play anywhere near as well as last week we will win this one. Much better opposition compared to last week; so it will be close. Chooks by 14.
