Love SJ as a player. Seems a good bloke. But why on earth would he leave NZ right at the end of his career? Non-story.

The only motivation would be to win a premiership but sadly he is no more likely to win it with us than he is with NZ. If Riff wanted him for a year to replace Luai he'd probs be tempted if he wants to tick the box for a premiership.

He is also an off the cuff player as opposed to an organiser so he isn't going to be a mentor style player player like Cronk. Sandon and Sam will have Keary, Cronk and co. to mentor them next season.

The only big name players I'd have come in and take Smith's spot next season are Cleary, DCE or Hughes and none of those options will happen.

Roosters offered Shaun Johnson $850k per year for two years, and he knocked it back about a month ago, sounds ridiculously high, and I’m glad he knocked it back!

Yet Keary announced his retirement two weeks ago. Was he disenfranchised because he heard we offered SJ a contract?

            Wow. If true, then -

            1. it doesn’t give the Walker/S Smith combo that Robbo has been talking up for next year a huge boost in confidence, give SJ wouldn’t be coming here to play Reggie’s.
            2. that’s 3 players that we know of who in the last month have knocked back the mighty Roosters…..why?
            3. what impact will this have on our guys who might already be looking over their shoulders already after the Fifita balls up…..Gus, Sitili, Sandon & Walker?
            4. I’m glad he isn’t coming our way as I think we are better off investing in what we already have and finally GROWING OUR OWN HALVES, something Robbo has yet to achieve.

Good point, I hadn’t considered that, as Keary had not long resigned for the extra year. Four into two quite doesn’t go, so it would might have been either Walker/Smith or Keary/Smith missing out, as you don’t pay SJ that sort of coin to play Reggies. Not great for the moral of our guys you’d think.

                Great points Steggles.

Strange that we have missed out on 3 players.

Not to sound too dramatic, hope we are not going into messy waters.

                Go Roosters.

Because every rumour you hear about the Roosters is true. Especially on a day like today.

Lastweek Robbo did admit he wanted to have a veteran half beside Walker & to guide S.Smith for the next 1-2 seasons before giving S.Smith full rein

I have so much faith in Sandon Smith, he just has “it” for me .

Might be blind faith but would love for him to build his experience.

Sam Walker should have over 80 games experience next year so can’t be considered a rookie anymore

It was discussed at some length on nrl 360 tonight, how much of it is true, we’ll probably never know, but apparently once the in-house decision was made with keary, the offer was made, and then rejected.

whether this is a play act on the roosters now being rejected by 3 players from the media or not, I’m not sure.
