I noted Braith Anasta's comments with interest:

NRL360 host Braith Anasta added: “There’s a lot more that’s gone on behind the scenes that a lot don’t know about, that the Roosters have put into Angus.

“Like he owes them?” James Graham asked.

“To a degree. No one owes anyone but that’s probably fair to say,” Anasta replied.

Given how closely Anasta works with players I tend to respect his view on this.

If you've had issues outside of work and your employer sticks by you, pays you in full when you are underperforming for so long, the right thing would be to keep your disgruntled opinions away from the public.

Let's not forget that the Roosters also allowed him to explore other opportunities with nearly 2 years remaining on his contract. Of course they would have been looking for a replacement. It would have been stupid to have no options if he did go to rugby. He still might go to rugby.
I would think any good club/employer has a duty of care to their players/employees … had we just cut him loose because he was struggling for a period? that would not have reflected well on us at all

Given that … Crichton does owe us in some small sense … and that is exactly what he is doing now … the best Australian edge going … I didn’t have a problem with his comments at all … he’s not Matt Lodge … he’s served us well … it also suggests he is back to his fighting best

Crichton can pursue his football career wherever he wishes … eg. union … just as the club is not obligated to tell him who they’re recruiting … but some level of communication is absolutely necessary … particularly when it comes to your best players … that was the strangest part of all of this

geez Sivo and Young on the wings.....they are both caught out rushing in mid field so often it would make Chris Walker look like a decent defender

If we do sign him I will officially board the sack Robbo train. Sivo is one of the biggest frauds in the game.

              • Also no thanks to Sivo, but as Milanja said the only benefit of signing him would be stopping him from knocking out Teddy and our other players.

Has only played well once. And he was opposing Morgan Harper. He’s a myth.

                  • no problem with his form but will he go on another hiatus for 3 years ...he is one player that kicks in form when he is for contract.

                    • My opinion after this whole Fifita/Angus fiasco would be to offer Angus a decent salary but not much more than what he is on, if he wants to chase money he can go be inconsistent with another club.

People saying he should be on 800+ are forgetting just how inconsistent and indifferent he has been in the last few years. I’d pay no more than 600 and if he doesn’t like it invest in Wong going forward. He has so much potential. Then if some things aren’t working as they should next season, look at the market then for someone. We don’t need to spend the money all at once, especially when there are limited quality options out there. Give the players we have the opportunity to prove their worth. Fifita was a luxury signing anyway, not a necessity. A necessity is replacing Manu’s strike power. Doesn’t mean we need to throw money at any half decent centre or edge player off contract right now.

Id still look to offload Sitili though. The fact he is on 650k is absolutely crazy. Let him go to the Warriors or something and get overpaid elsewhere.

                      • Facts are
                        1) Gus is a beast and has ability to be 1 of the best edge back rowers in the gane
                        2) he has demonstrated inconsistency and the difference between his best and worst is huge

question for Robbo is can he get Gus to be more consistent and lead the forward pack and team week in and week out and be that Cordner replacement we have been searching for

if not then I’d say someone else might be the Whyte or Wong choice to bet on

start of it just sounds like a marketing pitch for all clubs interested in him

                            • The only reason the Fifita signing was a thing is because Angus had already decided to leave anyway.

Given the back row stocks we have, the signing otherwise made no sense.

I'd probably give Gus a top up of 150k ish more to stay, but it may not even be about the money.

I think he loves and appreciates the club, but after what he has been through priorities change. Maybe he decided he wants a short career, and is keen on 2-3 years on a huge Union wage before hanging up the boots for good.

                              • Hard with Gus at his best easily worth $850k but has shown little consistency for years now
everyone is keen to re sign him but maybe smaller contract 1-2 years to make him perform again or keep the longer contract but in the clubs favour for any longer deal
Gus and Fifita would have been an insane edge if both players on
