I could be reading into this too much but my initial reaction to him being picked (and not Latrell) was that their ability to gel with each other after Latrell publicly targeted Leniu with heavy criticisms would have to have been considered at some point in time (if only in passing).

This is just the media telling a story but IMO Madge's positivity and Spencer's comments about how it was a shyte situation that will fire him up against QLD suggest that there's been a few knowing nods going on behind the scenes.

Won't speculate any more but I get the feeling there's a tight group of people who've rallied behind him, with his Origin selection being a reflection of his resilience throughout the whole situation. Wouldn't surprise me if Madge asked some of the Penrith boys what this was all about before making a judgment call that they all had his back.

Wild guess but IMO all the redacted BS was about Ezra being born in Penrith and there being prior bad blood, with a childhood nickname coming back to haunt him on the footy field.

Mitchell and JAC won't be selected under Maguire's tenure. Apparently he's not a fan!

Agree totally. His ball runs are nothing short of ferocious. He is a destructive beast.

There is no player in the comp who is as menacing to defenders when carrying the ball as Spencer is. He's a wrecking ball.

Could become one of my favourites Spence. Will never forget how he was victimised and pilloried for something that deserved no penalty.

He will really be a big part of our serious title push this year.

I find it odd that he has copped far more sustained and vile abuse on-line which completely overshadows and outweighs what he said to Mam.

I'll bet nobody, except club officials and close family, kept a watch over him and made sure he was doing ok with everything that was thrown his way.
1985: 1 try vs Parramatta, 1 try vs Manly, 1 try vs Wests, 2 tries vs Souffs
1986: 2 tries vs Illawarra, 1 try vs Balmain, 2 tries vs Norths.

Spencer is like a cross between Sam Moa and Terry Regan

                Ezra Mam.
                Scott Dearden.

                Who's the better player?

Be interesting to see how this all plays out as some would argue that the energy JAC brings to games is next level. He may well have put a lid on some of the bigger characters. Fingers crossed he knows what he's doing...

Out of interest was there any crossover with JAC's SG Ball years with Souffs and Madge's tenure there? (Guessing minimal contact even if so. Guess just wondering how he'd know 'em).

I'm not sure about his early days. Apparently they're a nightmare to manage whilst in camp together. Breaking curfew, late to training, music pumping.

                      Makes sense doesn’t it
potentially latrel and JAC might have not worked
maybe walker hence the Luai selection too
only one in the squad was Hynes who raised a voice
the Penrith players gave some extra treatment to staggs and Ezra

Yeah Hynes was full of hot air about Spencer too. Like it was the greatest injustice that Leniu wasn't executed for his nasty word. Straight after Hynes' mother was dealt with extremely leniently by the courts after her heroin operation got someone killed, and she continued to steal repeatedly after escaping jail for the death.

Wanna try and guess the exact reason she received such leniency?

So it works both ways, Nicho.

Some people just never know when they should shut their mouths.

JAC and especially Latrell are just disruptions chips on both shoulders for both of them. Never been a fan of JAC’s I think he’s one of the most overrated wingers in the game I could name 10 better wingers off the top of my head.
I never ever understood why JAC would be selected ahead of Toops just compare the pair here apart from pace JAC a
has bugger all on Toops, one is the utmost professional a gentleman and one of the most humble people you will ever meet, the other is a man child who can’t keep his tantrums or ego in check glued to social media craving attention, rather then focusing on his football and his family.

Latrell well it’s been well documented how giving one player so much rope he basically hung himself and Souffs with it, loved every bit of this season’s implosion at the filth.

How many players say that they wanna be here for life, or that they don’t want to leave? Even players that go to unuon say they don't want to play against easts/or that they can't see themselves wearing another NRL's jersey.
Yet more proof as to how far off the mark all the coach haters are.

Gussy has said similar. Let's hope the rumour of him accepting two more years is true.
