  • Marky Mark

Just read that Marky Mark has been left out of the Wallabies squad and with his season over as the Waratahs failed to make the finals he is all but guaranteed a 5-6 month break before he joins us for pre season.

Question is… Is there any room under the cap TY to give him a taste of NRL for the rest of the season?

I know I am clutching at straws but seems a waste him sitting around for 6 months doing nothing.

At least get him in around the boys at training and imbed him into the culture early.

    Why not
he will only be playing in Shute shield club rugby otherwise for the rest of the year
funny despite being one of the wallabies best players last year
let him learn the game abit again through nsw cup

Rugby Australia is on the downfall. Joe Schmidt (new Wallabies coach) I assume wants to come in and set a point that to play for the Wallabies you have to play in the Super Rugby (the Giteau law for those who know looks likely to be scrapped). While Mark hasn’t been great for the Tahs this season, it’s tough to be in that system, barely winning a game. Mark was done with the wallabies the moment he signed with us

Great idea. Not sure about our cap position though.

Can the club sign him on a "train & trial deal" before June 30 for the remainder of the year (or whatever the value the NRL designates for him as a rookie ?) and then allow his new contract to take effect when pre-season starts ? So essentially two separate contracts.

I like the idea .... more exposure the better for his development and us !

Would be good if they can.

Yeah, I'd love to sign him up now and introduce him to the Roosters way early.

I'd be surprised if he isn't involved with us weekly thou, in some capacity.

Robbo's definitely having zoom calls with him on the down low and probably has put him in touch with players, support and training staff !

Surely even on minimum wage it'd be a boost as he'd get an extra ~$150k (or whatever it is) plus the advantage of training/playing within our systems.

To me it would make no sense for him to play Shute Shield as it's (respectfully) park footy at best. Dunno which club he's from (assuming Easts / Randwick / Uni...etc) it's simply not the same level of competition as League. Also, it's a different sport!

TBH I'd have concerns about him losing conditioning and possibly picking up some sorta injury from being targeted in that comp (e.g. a heap of cocky, big@rse GPS rugby clowns/graduates trying to make a name for themselves by putting big hits on a Wallabies back who's signed with an NRL club). Even NSW Cup or something would be good. Guessing a contracted player can't do a T&T but surely there's a pathway for him to at very least train with Easts? (Personally I'd see $$$ value in simply training with Easts as you're getting access to quality coaches, facilities, medical staff, support staff...etc that park rugby can't offer).

My understanding is he has a contract with Rugby Australia until the end of this year (Nov) but in saying that like league contracts they become a clayton’s contract when both sides want out. RA have publicly said they would welcome him back in 2027 so allowing an early release now may be in their best interest. Given the state of rugby in this country they wouldn’t want to be burning any bridges with players.

No rules in place to stop him from training with us. To play he would need clearance from the ARU and we'd need to have enough room under our current salary cap to squeeze him in. His market value would be based on what we're paying him next season divided by the amount of games in a season then multiplied by how many games left in this season.

Just get him to watch videos of the Wallabies.
1985: 1 try vs Parramatta, 1 try vs Manly, 1 try vs Wests, 2 tries vs Souffs
1986: 2 tries vs Illawarra, 1 try vs Balmain, 2 tries vs Norths.

Yes from me. It makes sense to get him training with the squad at the very least. A handful of games in reserves would be a bonus.

If he isn’t in the wallabies squad he will be missing revenue for games played I think it’s about $15k a test
so he will be either stuck playing shute shield until his contract finishes or they can bring him over if he gets a release
I can see him playing centre actually over wing
big body who likes contact like suaali but also has an ability to break tackles and fend so he will make plenty of tackle and line breaks
played league when he was younger as well
