SMITH REVEALS ‘KICK UP THE ARSE’ FROM TEAMMATES

Roosters star Brandon Smith has addressed speculation he won’t see out his contract and revealed the “kick up the arse” he got from senior teammates.

Smith has been linked with an early exit from the Roosters in the wake of getting dropped for disciplinary reasons last week.

The 28-year-old received a breach notice for missing a team meeting earlier this month and while not a cardinal sin in isolation, the club came down hard because it reportedly reflected a pattern of behaviour.

It also triggered multiple reports that the club was losing patience with Smith - who is on $900,000 next season - and that he could be shown the door early.

But the New Zealand international has moved to quash departure speculation that he’d replace Damien Cook at the Rabbitohs next year.

“I knew the consequences were coming. I sort of expected it to happen, so when I got told it wasn’t so bad,” Smith said on being dropped for disciplinary reasons on The Bye Round Podcast.

“There’s only one thing I did see, someone said I was off to the Bunnies which is pretty interesting,” he said.

“That’s not true, just to get that out there.”

Smith revealed the Roosters leadership group told him he was falling short of club standards in what marked a wake up call and admitted he has to take the good headlines with the bad.

However, despite the coverage around his behaviour and his future, Smith explained he’s got no animosity towards the media.

“At the moment, I’m off socials so I’m not seeing it and I don’t read the paper,” he said.

“You’ve got to take the good days with the bad days and recognise that because you’re in the papers for being bad, it’s because you’re being bad.
“They don’t purposely target you all the time and you’re usually in there for doing something negative, if you can turn that around and do something positive you’re going to get in the papers for doing something positive.

“Journos get a bad rep … they report what’s the hot news and I don’t have any concerns about them writing bad stuff about me because at the moment, I’m not being good enough and I’m not doing what’s up to the Roosters standard.

“The leadership group have told me that, it’s a kick up the arse like Rads (Victor Radley) said … now it’s about turning those newspaper articles around from something negative to something positive and I can do that through my footy.”

According to the annoying Hoops, he IS going to the vermin. The media loves to make things up just so they have something to talk about.

Imagine getting a kick up the arse by Rads....it was only 3 years ago he got fined 20k for a incident at Byron Bay, then a few months later got kicked off a flight from the Gold Coast for being tanked!!!

Everyone makes mistakes. Brandon missing that team review isn't good enough for any player in the top 30 roster, let alone a 28 year old on 800k- but it shouldn't be grounds to shop him around (this time).

Balls in Brandons court- its time to start firing. I think he has been really good this year but not the consistent form he showed at the Storm.

Side note- it was Paul Kent who got stuck into Rads for being tanked and acting like a idiot. Go figure!

Did anyone expect him to say anything else.

“I’m not happy at the club and I’m looking at
            moving”.

            Yeh right!

James Hooper and Brandon Smiht have got history due to all the cheating allegations that Hooper made during Melbourne's 2020 season & Premiership win...

Let's be realistic, he missed a video session!!!! H has done something very crucial which has switched the momentum in games for us to win. Certain run from dummy half & kick a 40/20 (Vegas). Tow one on one strips to score off the back of them too (Souths). Scores a try and sets up 1 (Penrith). Everywhere on defence and picking up the loose balls including setting up two tries (Dragons). Runs from dummy half to give line break assists and including scoring a try (Knights)...

The list goes on so tell me where James Hooper and NRL 360 believe that Robbo and the club want to release him??

So Brandon is a 28 year old experienced footballer who’s come from the Storm system, and he claims to be learning from Victor Radley on how to act off the field to get positive headlines in the papers? Really??

Sounds like a bunch of hogwash to me,Brandon is old enough to know this by now..

A perfect example of actions speak louder than words!

I don’t think any Chooks fan actually cares what Brandon Smith says or does off the field to defend himself. Nobody has ever disliked the bloke. What we want are performances on the field. He just needs to worry about that.

These are some of the quotes from Hoops:

Take it as fact Smith is heavily on the outer at the Roosters.
I get the impression that Brandon has worn out his welcome at the Chooks.

Well what is it - fact or your impression or is your impression just fact ffs?

the Roosters may possibly be willing to throw in $400,000 to walk away from his contract

Because Uncle Nick told you how much we are prepared to pay for him to move to Souffs. FM.

The guy is an A-grade goose. I don't remember if any of his exclusives ever came true. But his theory is throw enough shiit and one of his exclusives is bound to stick.
I can't split Hoops, The Mole and Chammis for the YAFI Media Award this year. It might be a three way tie.

Hooper isn't known for exclusives when it comes to the Roosters, I'd be concerned if Buzz broke the story as he seems to have a direct line to Nick.
Obviously, it is up to Brandon to decide if he wants to fit into the club.
