He will be playing every week. He is not going to play reserve grade. It’s another example of Robbo not trusting youth. He is a good professional yes, he is not a typical boofhead, well spoken. But on the field he is bang friggin average and he always has been. We have Cooper Cronk as halves coach so there should be no need to have an extra voice around.
If we were insistent on not trusting youth, we should have thrown a check book at Ben Hunt for a year, someone who is actually a good player.

I kinda agree with your sentiments. If he was here as coverage for injury, then it would make some sense, but not as a starter for me. Hunt would have been the much better starter option. I’d like to see Sandon and Luke share the 6 position this year to provide Sandon with a bit more FG experience, particularly with our relatively cushy draw for the back end of the year.
I hope we can keep the best of our young guns coming through and don’t lose them to FG opportunities elsewhere.
Lots of negative reactions here. I think it's good as long as it's how the story reads. Chad is there for mentoring and backup. What if Sam or Sandon go down with an ACL or similar - who plays half or 5/8 next year? I'm taking it on face value - Chad will be used in firsts if we need him other than that he will be used as a coach who can back up on the field if needed.

Well said, some sense in all the chaos this is my thought process also he’s coming here to cover, he’s plan B not just for injury but for experienced head DCE is also just about done in the origin arena Sammy will be in camp next season, having Chad he guide the team through that period, mentoring them also.
I’d rather us get Drew back lol. Townsend is garbage, a laughing stock of the NRL, a joke. Sam Walker showed him up when he was still in his single digits of games played. Seems like a knee-jerk signing. He better be just a back up.
Why would he come as a backup when he was offered FG gigs everywhere else?
Stop trying to cope with this news by thinking he’s a backup. He will play far more games than he should for us. Absolutely bog standard transit lounge era signing if ever I’ve seen.
This is not Michael Jennings coming back for a swansong as 4th choice. This is Robbo panicking that we can’t get Sandon and Sam firing so he goes for a stopgap option. The only saving grace is that last time we made a dud decision like this, like replacing RTS with Gordon, it resulted in a bigger signing coming the year after.
